DUBAI: A Pakistani water company is set to establish their manufacturing plant in Dubai with an investment of over two million dirhams, which would make it the first local firm to move to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for setting up their desalination plant within the water industry.
Speaking exclusively with The News during the ongoing Annual Investment Meeting 2012, Irshad Hussain, chief operating officer of the Pak Oasis Industries (Pvt) Ltd, said that they have been working on the projects in the Arab nation for around three years now. Until now we used to manufacture our equipment in Pakistan and then bring them here. But now we will be setting up a plant here to deal with the local projects, he said.
The plant will be set up in Jebel Ali. He said that it is 25 percent more economical to operate here than in Pakistan due to the difference in the overhead costs and various other economies of scale.
The firm also plans to hire engineers in Pakistan and then relocate them in Dubai, he added. Already, we have around 50 employees working in our Dubai projects and we plan to bring more from Pakistan for our plant, he said.
The main reason to do this is that employment is created within Pakistan itself and we utilise the local labour force and improve their standard of living rather than hiring them from the UAE job market, he added.
Pakistan has a lot of job opportunities in the water industry, but there is a lack of water sector engineers, he said, adding that to resolve this problem, Pak Oasis has decided to collaborate with the NED University and hire fresh graduates to train them within the water sector.
Our plan is to train around 250 engineers and relocate them under our companys banner all over the world, said Hussain. The firm already has a number of staff globally working for them. Furthermore, the company also plans to hire 300 engineers for their Pakistan office.
This would take our engineers count to 600, which is the largest number of engineers working in a firm in Pakistan, he said. Specialising in water filtration, sanitation systems and disaster relief, Pak Oasis is a solutions-driven, global water company, with an established track record of delivering results on time, on budget and in the most challenging environments on earth.
The company brings to bear its knowledge of renewable energy technologies and water conservation to every aspect of its work. Harnessing the world-class technology, Pak Oasis provides highly cost-effective, time-sensitive and energy-efficient solutions to the needs of its customers. The firm also prides itself in the largest ultra filtration plant in Asia, which is located in Nawabshah, said Hussain. Faryal Najeeb
