NEW DELHI: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif narrowly escaped an attack on him on Sunday night while he was on the way to capital Islamabad, the country's Express Tribune reported on its website.

The website quoting sources at the leader's official residence reported Sharif along with his family was travelling to the capital when a car tried to overtake the convoy and hit his car.

It also said that the car was found to have a fake number plate.
The driver has been taken into custody after the car was forced to pull off. The news website quoting its sources said the interrogation of the driver was under way.

The prime minister is reported to be safe.

For half an hour there were tickers going on, "PM's convoy escapes attack". "Car collides with convoy" and whatever, as if a 100 people attacked him.

But now the issue has been cleared.

But still a few questions:

1- How the heck was the car able to come so close (reportedly one car away from PM's car)?

2- Why was their no action taken at the moment a car was coming in?

This is potentially very dangerous, a car can get so near the PM.

Random car unintentionally intrudes into PM Nawaz's convoy

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family remained safe as a car unintentionally intruded into his convoy as he was returning to Islamabad from Murree.

The car was immediately intercepted by security officials and the driver was questioned.

The driver of the car, a retired Air Commodore, who was with his family said that he was unaware that he had intruded into the route of the motorcade as there was no special traffic protocol present.

Following the questioning they were allowed to leave.

PM Nawaz's wife Kulsoom and daughter Maryam were also in the convoy and reportedly the PM along with his family reached their house safe and sound.
