Pakistan Railways recovers land worth billions

ISLAMABAD: As part of its efforts to eradicate corruption and ensure good governance, Pakistan Railways has recovered 407 acres of land worth billions of rupees from land grabbers.

The company is also engaged in devising a mechanism for the future according to which high-value land will be leased out on the identification of an in-house consultant along with a transparent process to generate maximum revenues.

According to the Pakistan Railways, the government has adopted numerous measures to eradicate corruption and introduced a scrap policy to override corruption in the sales process.

Scrap will be sold through open competitive bidding supervised by a committee of officers to ensure transparency. Around Rs17 million has been recovered during the last six months whereas four FIRs have been lodged against the main culprits.
