Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to increase cooperation in economy, trade and energy, Radio Pakistan reported.

In a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sariyev Temir in Bishkek, the two leaders agreed to enhance political exchanges and people-to-people contacts.

Nawaz appreciated the political maturity which the people of Kyrgyzstan have shown in developing its democratic culture and norms. He said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have common a history, culture, faith and desire for peaceful, stable and prosperous region.

Addressing a joint news conference, Nawaz said Pakistan enjoyed excellent bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan. The premier expressed his desire to deepen relations with the Central Asian state. Both the countries have shared interests for peace and stability in the region with common views on regional and international issues, added the prime minister.

Agreements

The agreements signed between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday include cooperation in disaster management and anti-narcotics.

Prime ministers of both the countries witnessed the agreement signing ceremony.

Earlier, Nawaz arrived in Bishkek on an official visit to Kyrgyzstan after concluding a two-day visit to Turkmenistan.

In the formal welcome ceremony at the airport, he was given guard of honour, and national anthems of the two countries were played on the occasion.

Federal Ministers Khurram Dastgir, Khawaja Asif, Minister of State Jam Kamal, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Political Secretary to the PM Asif Kirmani are accompanying the prime minister.
