Pakistan has spent $80 bn in terror war

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that no country had suffered so much as Pakistan from terrorism and it had lost 40,000 innocent lives in addition to $80 billion in economic terms.

The President was addressing inaugural ceremony of sixth conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians here on Sunday. He said Pakistan was committed to the SAARC Charter and believed that durable peace in the region was in the interest of all. He urged the regional countries to join hands to fight the menace of extremism and terrorism.

He said that the region should adopt a collective approach to face the common challenges and explore the opportunities for the benefit of the people.

He said that the SAARC parliaments should plan and lead efforts for solving complex issues by protecting political liberties, human freedoms and the rule of law to promote regional peace and security.

Referring to democratic transition in South Asia, the President said that democracy was a prerequisite for economic development and political stability. Strong parliaments play a crucial role in ushering in reforms and ensuring efficiency and transparency of the governing structures, he added.

He said that the government in Pakistan had taken bold decisions to empower the Parliament.

A democratically elected government was nearing the completion of its term and soon Pakistan would achieve a peaceful democratic transition. “We are well on our way to realizing democracy’s dividends,” he added.

The President said that some people might feel that the Parliament was still under assault from some quarters, but these were the teething troubles of a genuine democratic transition. These are the dying kicks of an old order, he added.

He said that the South Asia of today had undergone a democratic transformation. The Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians is a vital instrument for promoting contacts between the peoples of the region, he added. (Geo News/APP)

If they spent 1 million $ to kill each terrorist then 80000 terrorist would have been dead by now .. A single bullet fired by a dedicated soldier at right aim is becoming very costly these days .. what is official no of terrorist killed by pakistan in this war on terror ?

am sure more than 75 of the amount were given as aid by usa and uk...
and it received aid money from gulf which in turn revives terrorism.... Its a never ending process...
All we have seen is buying equipments for its defence against india...

I WONDER HOW INDIANS HAVE SOO MUCH PRIVILEGE TO TROLL IN EACH & EVERY THREAD. ALL THREADS ARE BEING TROLLED BY USELESS TROLLS HAVING INDIAN FLAGS & NO ACTION.:disagree::undecided: WE CAN"T REPORT EVERY POST IN EVERY THREAD, SOME TIMES WE ARE FORCED TO REPLY READING NONSENSE THEY POST.

@ Topic, i think it may be more than 80billion $. Somewhere near 100billions.

Lol the title is wrong. Its not that Pakistan is financing this war using their banking system. Pakistan is not America. Amount spent by Pakistan govt is prolly less than 3 bill. This is the amount suffered by Pakistani economy and development that could have happened.

Don't be so sure, if you have facts than please share. US has given only 11billion$ since 2001, no other country had given anything else. Pakistan has fight this war on it's own expense.

Second part make no sense when your first part of the post is utter B.S.

Oh what a troll post! Just to correct your misconception. From 1948 till 2010, the total US aid that was provided to Pakistan is not more than $61.7 billion. Now, how come 75% of these losses or expenditures of $80 billion in last 10 years or so were US aid? Do some math, genius.

And for the record, Pakistan received no more than $15-$18 billion in aid in last 10 years.

Guys, let's not forget, 50% of what is said to be "US aid" is actually not aid. It's reimbursement for services provided to the US. So when you hear that US has provided x amount of aid to Pakistan, the real number is always half of that.

The amount US has provided to Pakistan since WoT started is anywhere from 20-25 billion over a period of 11 years. Doing the math, the "aid" part would then be 10-13 billion maximum. Only a small fraction of the losses incurred by Pakistan in the WoT.

we didn't spend $80 billion dollars on killing terrorists.

We supposedly suffered $80 billion dollars worth of damage to the economy.
And please do not question our effort in this war, we've pulled far far more than our own weight, as a matter of fact we've pulled the weight of a hostile superpower and it's allies.

No country had supported terrorist as much as Pakistan. It is not that they are so innocent and terrorist are external and hurting.
Here is their contribution to terrorism.
A good majority of terrorist are Pakistani.
The initial training of fighting, bomb making, communication to terrorist all came from Pakistan's Army.
The list goes on and on.
So if you suffered the most it is because of your bad decisions. Pity to those countries who suffered because of you.

US aid hardly covers the damages. Not to mention, a lot of US aid should have been money we received for services, instead we gave for free, such as supply routes.

Besides, you've got to understand, while this figure may seem too big to be true, in economics, everything has a knock-on effect and such an event we were in is particularly damaging for developing economies.

Where were these terrorists prior to that mismanaged and counter-productive invasion?

Misleading title, but who believes a liar like Zardari anyway? :D

then why you deal with him on WOT issue?

zardari is liar but uncle sam is not, story of the day

Nobody deals with Zardari on the WoT issue either! :D

(The real power lies elsewhere.)

Misleading title, but who believes a liar like Zardari anyway? :D

He doesn't have the brain power to comprehend such issues.
Perhaps the work of his economic advisers, but I'm also tempted to believe that the figure is exaggerated a bit, he did this with the floods too.

But it cannot be denied that Pakistan's economy has suffered immensely due to the existence of the WoT and Pakistan's participation.
