ISLAMABAD: The government is taking all possible steps for the welfare and development of all religious minorities in the country, Minority Affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti said on Sunday.
Talking to a delegation of the Sikh community, the minister said a bill regarding the Sikh family law would be tabled in parliament for legislation. Bhatti said no democratic society could flourish without giving equal rights to its minorities. He said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government had been trying to provide all opportunities to the minorities for their welfare and prosperity.Bhatti said Pakistan is sacred for the people of different faiths and the government was taking special steps to renovate and maintain places of religious importance for minorities. He said special instructions had been issued to the authorities concerned in this regard.
