MUSCAT Pakistan is aiming at exploring the possibility of increasing its exports of livestock and dairy products to Oman and other GCC countries.
This was stated by a Pakistani official, who ended his four-day visit yesterday. He described his visit as fruitful.
Khadim Hussain Kasuri, Special Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister, Pakistan, on Livestock and Dairy Development, outlined various initiatives taken by the authorities to promote livestock and dairy products.
The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Board (PLDDB) is keen to increase its exports to Oman and other Gulf countries.
Kasuri said PLDDP was established to focus on the livestock development in the province for the economic growth and poverty alleviation by using most modern technology.
This sector has enabled Pakistan to stand as the third largest milk producing country in the world. Punjab, he explained, is blessed with extensive and precious livestock resources, including the worlds renowned breeds of buffalo, cattle, sheep, goat and camel and by taking the advantage of this potential we will not only fulfil the national demand of milk and meat but also become a big exporter in the world.
Since its inception, the board has tremendously contributed to the development of livestock and dairy sector in Punjab.
The key focus areas of PLDDB are: reproduction and breeding services; skill development of youth from rural Punjab as artificial insemination assistants/extension workers; establishment of semen production units; adoption of better nutritive feed management practices; provision of unadulterated milk to the consumers by adopting modern delivery systems; establishment of model dairy farms.
During the visit, Kasuri met leading importers of Pakistani mutton and beef and encouraged them to import live animals from Punjab. He greatly appreciated the role played by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in developing Oman as a modern and technologically advanced country.
Mian Muhammad Munir, a prominent Pakistani businessman, played an important role in arranging his various meetings and interaction with Pakistani community leaders residing in Muscat.
He thanked Khalid bin Hudi al Balushi and Mian Muhammad Munir, Managing Director, Al Ittfaq International LLC, for arranging his visit to Oman.
Addressing another gathering of experts, Kasuri said, Punjabs Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the development of livestock sector is important because it has great export potential. The Punjab government is pursuing a comprehensive programme for further developing its livestock sector by setting up modern slaughter houses; adopting modern means of increasing production and exports.
Kasuri said a number of countries are now expressing interest in the import of meat from Pakistan.
