ISLAMABAD (May 24 2010): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Cairo and held an in-depth review of Pakistan-Egypt relations encompassing all fields. A press release issued, here on Sunday said that the two Foreign Ministers also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Foreign Minister is currently in Egypt at the invitation of the Egyptian Government to co-chair the third session of the Pakistan-Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission.

During the Ministerial session, the two sides reviewed the existing level of co-operation between the two brotherly countries and made recommendations and enhanced co-operation in more than twenty areas was agreed.

These areas include economic and commercial relations, investment opportunities, co-operation in public and civil services, health sector, agriculture, and postal. It was also agreed that both countries would further enhance their co-operation in the alternative energy sector particularly wind power generation. Business interaction between the two countries was also emphasised.

The two Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Pakistan Foreign Services Academy and the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies.

In their presence, the Pakistan Ambassador to Egypt, Ms Seema Naqvi and Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Ahmed Fathallah signed the second executive programme of co-operation in Science and Technology.

The Foreign Ministers discussed latest developments in regional and the world in general. The Middle East Peace Process, Afghanistan, Sudan, Pak-India thaw, and the Nile Basin Initiative also came under discussion.

The Foreign Minister conveyed to his Egyptian counterpart the keen desire of the Pakistani leadership to further upgrade bilateral relations. Expressing satisfaction over the existing co-operation between the two countries, the two Foreign Ministers vowed continued and fullest support to each other at the international fora.
