Two varieties of maize developed

LAHORE (June 17 2010): Institute for Agriculture Research for Maize, Yousafwala (Sahiwal) has developed two hybrid varieties of maize namely FH-810, Yousafwala Hybrid and two synthetic varieties Pearl and MMRI-Yellow. The scientists of the institutes have sent these newly developed varieties to the Punjab Seed Council (PSC) for approval, said a spokesman of the Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) here on Wednesday.
The spokesman said that a committee of the experts after inspection, in a meeting headed by the Director General Agriculture (Research) Faisalabad has recommended that these varieties for should be sent to PSC for the approval. According to the research institute these varieties can produce 25 to 30 percent more production and suitable for sowing of both seasons. These varieties also have more tolerance against hot weather. Another quality of these varieties is to remain green till its harvesting due to which, farmers could also use it as fodder, the spokesman concluded.
