MANAMA, Bahrain: Pakistan Navy's Rear Admiral Mohammad Zakaullah Monda assumed the command of the Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 from the French Navy's Rear Admiral Alain Hinden at a ceremony in Manama.
Pakistan Navy's participation is in line with Pakistans decision to fight terrorism in all its manifestations whereby it is totally committed to play its due role in maintaining stability and a secure environment in the North Arabian Sea for un-interrupted flow of vital energy supplies to the world while safeguarding maritime interests of Pakistan.
Rear Admiral Zakaullah while assuming command said in accordance with the policy of collaborative maritime security, Pakistan Navy, despite resource constraints, remains committed to playing its role to realise the shared goal of regional stability and security.
The CTF 150 conducts Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the Gulf of Aden, the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
It covers a vast area from the Gulf of Oman to the Red Sea, about 2.4 million square miles, with a coastline stretching 6500 nautical miles and bordering 14 nations.
It has immense importance due to the presence of three most important choke points of the world the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Babul Mandab.
Apart from other vital trade, one third of world's oil supply is transported through the Strait of Hormuz.
Rear Admiral Hinder said the CTF has shown that millions of square miles of the ocean are not property and playground of smugglers, pirates and terrorists.
We on high seas in collaboration with regional neighbours will make every effort and bear the burden of enforcing the rule of international law of seas, thousands of miles from shores. PPI
