‘Pakhtuns being blamed unnecessarily’
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed points finger at the Punjabis to be the culprits

“Those carrying out bombings and spreading terror across the country are not Pakhtuns, but Punjabis. The Pakhtuns are unnecessarily being blamed,” - Sheikh Rashid Ahmed

KARACHI: At a meeting with journalists on Sunday, chief of the Awami Muslim League and former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed declared the next few months to be the most crucial for the government that is faced with terrorism as its biggest challenge. “Those carrying out bombings and spreading terror across the country are not Pakhtuns, but Punjabis. The Pakhtuns are unnecessarily being blamed,” he said.

During his talk at a local hotel, Rashid spoke on a number of issues. The government, he said, has failed to provide relief to the people when inflation had surged, making it difficult to earn a livelihood. “Look at the prices of commodity items in markets. Why is the government unable to provide relief despite being in power for more than two and half years? People were exporting daal while the common man was deprived of this cheap meal. Who are these people and how did they acquire permits to export?” questioned Rasheed.

He also referred to the recent statement by the Sindh Chief Minister over the NFC and Value Added Tax (VAT)issue. The CM had claimed that some officers of the federal government had fooled the president and CM over NFC and VAT issue, he stated. Rashid said that the provincial chief executive’s claims on the floor of the house needed no other admittance to failure. He said that the whole idea had been a joke but the government had celebrated it as a historic event. “The time has come for people to stand up and question the government,” Rasheed remarked.

Talking about the deterioration of railways, which was also his previous ministry, Rasheed predicted that it would soon become the country’s most heavily indebted department.

He further added that the time had come for people to come out on streets and protest. Rasheed claimed that he foresaw such a situation, hinting at a change in government within the next few months. “If the government survives this time, then it can manage a longer term but there is little chance of that happening,” Rasheed predicted.

In response to a question about the joint chief of forces retirement, Rashid remarked that that Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani would not accept the slot based on his personality. However, he believed that someone else would soon fill in.

Also present at the press conference were the Sindh chapter AML’s Mahfooz Yar Khan other local party members.

My comment :

There is some truth in it giving the evidence we have seen so far. Pakhtun areas are being used by the terrorists but the terrorists mostly are not necessarily Pakhtuns.

That is pathetic to blame a single ethnicity for the atrocities. These guys are terrorists and they dont have ethnicity neither nationality or religion. every ethnic group and race has got these people among them, some has got less some has got more.

That is correct. Pakhtun people are wrongfully prejudged by the main stream media to be the ethnic group responsible for the current events of terror in Pakistan.

I have been reading some of the online news from pakistani websites, i havent noticed anything against any specific group, maybe the Urdo media do such a thing? i dont know. Just because the Taliban are predominately ethnic pashtoon, it doesnt mean that ethnic group is responsible for the atrocities, we should know that the pashtons are suffering badly under the taliban in these 2 countries.

By giving these kinda statements Sheikh is looking for Pakhtun Votes, but i do agree that one should'nt blame it on one ethnic group, Punjabis as well as other ethnic groups are also involved in these acts.. so blaming just Pakhtuns is not fair.

.
i dont know y people are trying to bring religion , ethnicity in this terror thing.
They are no one but terrorists they have no religion , and they just terrorist not punjabi pushtoon or sindi or sumthing like tht .
Y r these people trying to divide Pakistan on the basis of ethnicity.

We all are Pakistanis and we all need to stand and fight against terrorism.

You see , there is a very big difference between Afghan Pashtuns and Pakistani Pakhtuns regardless of the language similarities. Pakistani Pakhtuns are very hard core Pakistani nationalists and they will never accept anything that undermines the Pakistani integrity. On the other hand, Talibans are Pan-Islamists (without a border ) who have been fighting a proxy war on behalf of the Arab imperialists by using largely Afghan Pashtun population as merely tools.

I've been following the war, Nobody really blamed the Pakhtuns ever. Their territory is being used, which makes them victim, not the perpetrator.

Sheikh Rashid is just trying to start up an issue for political gain

Pukhtuns are brave people and our Pukhtun army officers as well as jawans have been rendering great sacrifices in war against terrorists of TTP and other terrorists who include not only locals but also Punjabis.

The Bottom line Pukhtuns are true patriotic Pakistanis
