KarachiConsul General of Indonesia to Pakistan Rossalis R Adenan has said that implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Indonesia and Pakistan will lead to reduce import tariffs, while will increase bilateral trade to around $4 billion in a few years.
Talking to journalists on flag-hoisting ceremony at the Consulate General on 68th Independence Day of Republic of Indonesia on August 17th he said that the volume of bilateral trade between both countries in 2012 was only 1.6 billion dollars.
Referring to the FTA that hit snags soon after its ratification last year Adenan said, Bilateral trade is far below its real potential and I hope the agreement is going to be implemented in the near future.
He said, Indonesias main exports to Pakistan are palm oil, coal, nuts, and staple fiber of viscose, yarn, rubber, chemical, wood pulp and papers, while Pakistans major exports to Indonesia are cotton, rice, wheat, frozen sardines, orange, copper, cotton and leather.
Bilateral trade between the two countries increased at an annualized rate of 12.6% from 2008 to 2012, he added.
On this occasion, Indonesian Consul General also said that he would also like to take this opportunity to convey warm greetings to the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who celebrated their Independence Day on the 14th August 2013.
