KarachiChinese President Hu Jintao and Asif Ali Zardari would witness signing of MoU regarding mega development project of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the proposed coastal city of Zulfiqarabad in Thatta, next week when Pakistani President will visit China (ninth time since assuming office) to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. This was stated by Provincial Information Minister Shazia Atta Mari at a Press Conference held here on Saturday evening.
Shazia Mari told that all the members of Sindh Cabinet opined in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday that Zulfiqarabad could prove to be a harbinger of the Provinces affluence. Disclosing that the project was in the planning phase she told that Chinese entrepreneurs would act as the advisors, consultants, facilitators as well as investors. Mari while informing that the experiment of first Chinese Special Economic Zone in Shenzhen would be replicated here, told that a delegation comprising Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, MD Zulfiqarabad and others had already visited China in this respect. Pakistan Observer had learnt that in the first phase of Zulfiqarabad leading Chinese entrepreneurs would undertake the development work while based-here and would incessantly invest for one and a half decades before reaping any results. Shazia Mari observing that due to erroneous policies of Pervez Musharraf & Nawaz Sharif, Gwadar Port & Thar Coal projects were abandoned shattering investors confidence, pointed out that Government was keeping a low profile providing the investors an edge in order to build their confidence.
Commenting on Provincial Budget, Information Minister told that suggestions of all the coalition partners were obtained and the Chief Minister had reassured that maximum proposals would be incorporated in the budget even at that late stage. Further informing apropos Cabinet resolutions Shazia Mari told that following the PPP manifesto of empowering women via employment, it was decided to formulate a mechanism ensuring that 25% employment went to women up & above the jobs they acquired on merit. She further stated that Government would make sure that special citizens and members of minority got their quota. Answering to a question about non-utilization of announced development portfolio in Sindh, Shazia Mari pointed out that due to floods an amount of Rs. 42 billion had to be diverted towards disaster management.
