Shillong, July 15 2012: Reacting on specific intelligence input, BSF troops deployed in Lyngkhat, East Khasi Hills district apprehended one Bangladeshi national along with Fake Indian and Bangladeshi currency, on Saturday.
According to BSF officials, the incident happened at around 3pm.The apprehended person has been identified as Abdul Rahim (Raju) from Sylhet area, Bangladesh.
On search, the party recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) face value Rs.50,000, Fake Bangladesh currency 5,000 Taka, one mobile phone with Bangladeshi SIM card.
According to BSF officials, the seized FICN was meant for circulation in the Indian market.
BSF is keeping strict vigil/surveillance and having effective intelligence network along the India Bangladesh border to nab the FICN racketeers and smugglers and has also been successful in nabbing the FICN racketeers on six occasions in East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
It can also be mentioned that the spot where the Rahim national was apprehended is unfenced.
The Bangladeshi nationals have always been trying to take advantage of the unfenced patches in the East Khasi Hills and the Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya as it is the third attempt by the FICN racketeers to smuggle the FICN through the same area in East Khasi Hills district.
Besides above, BSF troops also seized 23 numbers of cattle, liquor, wooden logs and other contraband items of the estimated value of Rs.5,12,000 during the last week.
Apprehended person and seized items have been handed over to concerned department for further disposal and legal action as per law of the land.
