OGRA recommends 74% increase in sui gas prices

While you're at it, get rid of tractors and tube wells too. Those use fuel as well. Also get rid of fuel guzzling motor vehicles and switch back to khoti rehri. You can use the khoti's refuse as manure and get rid of synthetic fertilizer as well.

Or, as an enduring solution, use them all, but please get into the habit of paying for the actual costs of the energy used, rather than unaffordable subsidies. How about that?

We already pay. One way of the other. However, that money ends up going into purchasing 165 brand new Mercedes for the All the Prime Minister's Men.

But poor people will die. In Pakistan middle class/economy movers are evaporated in the thin air of extreme inflation. The average salary is 30,000 to 40,000 ... can you survive?

The govt can choose to provide a subsidy to help the poor. Unfortunately the govt will only provide subsidies to the wealthy and the powerful.

The elite benefit to the tune of $17.4 billion a year through subsidies and tax breaks. Imagine if this was channelled to the very poorest in society, or even better, to the small and medium enterprises.

I agree 100%.

The biggest burden should be born by the broadest shoulders. Lets stop the $17.4 billion a year the elite enjoy at the cost of the tax payer.

Step 1: Burn traitors in incinerator
Step 2: Use incinerator to power heat in homes
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

But we will run out of traitors you say? This is Pakistan; you never run out of traitors. Life long supply!

sometimes i think it just better if the country fails completely so the born traitor nation can look back and reflect their crimes.

Pakistan imports of energy are in the multiple tens of billions of dollars annually and rising, everything else is small potatoes by comparison.

Those are the kinds of structural changes needed, but the end consumer must also pay the actual costs of the energy they use, directly, and not the subsidized costs.

Go back to burning wood, then run out of wood, then import wood?
Wood is a poor source of energy. Pakistan has plenty of coal. With better distribution and utilization, spending on imported fuels can be greatly reduced. Digging up coal from pits doesn't require some great investment in technology or knowhow. It has been done for hundreds of years.
