ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar assured on Thursday that there will no 'judicial NRO' or judicial martial law in the country.

He made the remarks while interacting with senior counsel Naeem Bukhari, who is representing a petitioner in the case related to Capital Development Authority's officials on deputation.

Following Tuesday's meeting of the chief justice with the prime minister, there had been reports of a 'judicial NRO' in the making, wherein former premier Nawaz Sharif would be saved from the corruption cases against him.

During today's hearing, Bukhari claimed that there is a lot of talk of a 'judicial martial law' these days. To this, the chief justice remarked, "Let me clarify, no judicial martial law or judicial NRO is being planned. There will be only Constitution and democracy in the country, nothing else."

"If I say that nothing is happening then several TV shows will close down," he quipped.

Earlier, the chief justice observed that the judiciary should be critiqued but justly, as this will lead to reforms in the institution.

"The other day someone referred to the posters in my favour in Karachi. They do not know I have ordered their removal. If I slap a ban today than the business of many will shut down," he remarked.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, commenting on his recent meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, said the premier had come to him and he did not go to the PM House or the Secretariat.

“The PM came with a plea, and it is my duty to hear everyone’s requests. I didn’t go to the PM house or the Secretariat. They came towards me,” he added.

The comment by the chief justice came during the hearing of a suo motu case regarding illegal encroachment in Murree.

The CJP also said that he will not disappoint his institution or the legal community.

Unusual moot: Abbasi promises to achieve CJP’s ‘vision’

Elaborating further, Justice Nisar said that in the meeting, he didn’t lose anything but gained a lot.

The CJP urged Justice Latif Khosa to have faith in him. When Justice Khosa mentioned the CJP’s meeting with Justice (retd) Abdul Rasheed Wali, the CJP responded saying, “I refused to go to his [Justice Wali] house, so he walked to mine.”

The bench decided to form a two-member commission to probe illegal construction in Murree. The bench will consider retired judge Abdul Sattar and Judge Maqbool Bajwa of the Shariat court.

“Will consult the two people in the break of the hearing,” he added.

The bench also unanimously decided that forming a commission is the ideal solution to the problem at hand.

On Tuesday, PM Abbasi assured the CJP that all steps will be taken to make the adjudicator’s ‘vision’ a reality in a meeting at the Supreme Court (SC).

What can be done against Nawaz Sharif, he is nobody now: CJP

The PM has assured that all steps will be taken to achieve the vision of the chief justice with respect to free education, provision of quality and affordable health services, revamping of medical education, provision of clean drinking water, better sanitation, and environmental protection, according to a statement issued by the Supreme Court PRO soon after a two-hour-long meeting between the PM and the CJP.

In return, the chief justice also assured that the “judiciary will continue to perform its constitutional duties independently, fairly, transparently, without fear or favour and strictly in accordance with the law”.

Two days after a rare meeting between the top judge and prime minister, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Thursday that Premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi must have begged Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar to save Nawaz Sharif through another National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

Addressing a press conference with Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo in Quetta, Imran accused the premier of working on a one-point agenda of protecting “Nawaz Sharif’s theft.”

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been organising rallies following Nawaz’s disqualification as the prime minister as well as the party’s chief since July last year.

JIT conveyed through phone to make its own decision over Qatari letter: Zia

According to Imran, PM Abbasi is striving to save an individual who has stolen billions of rupees and lies constantly. He added that it was for the first time in the country’s history that the PM had refused to accept the judiciary’s verdict.

The PTI chief added that Nawaz had been trying to make the nation fool by quoting Joint Investigation Team (JIT) chief Wajid Zia that his name had not appeared anywhere in [the the inquiry relating to] London flats and offshore companies case.

In reality, he added, Maryam is being tried in these cases and the question arises; where did she accumulate those billions? On Senate elections, Imran said that not letting a PPP or PML-N candidate as the chairman was a major victory, and termed it positive for Balochistan.
