Next Generation Warfare

Next Generation warfare is likely going to be very different to current warfare in Middle East. Many of the weapons we have now will become obsolete or sitting ducks.

The importance of AI technology, Drone warfare, Robotics and Stealth is going to be pivotal to a new generation of combat. A country will still require manpower and resources to build such war weapons however many current era weapons will be useless in the future.

Turkey showed the importance of drone warfare in Libya in wiping away the LNA air superiority advantage and changing the tide of war is just one example.

Nations who will invest in advanced technology and have the manufacturing power will be the future. e.g.
NATO or Russo-Chinese alliance will have the manpower, resources, economy to maintain large drone/robotic forces.

Lets hope it doesn't result in millions of drones carrying hydrogen bombs guided by AI.

Current drones have limitation. Low powered prop engine provide low speed. Lack of air to air capability. Low payload carrying only TOW sized missiles. Easy to jam radio link. Turkey's success in Libya is not because of drones but because of frigates off the shores of Tripoli.

Warfare always goes through such period of change and that tide beings its own challenges and concerns. There exists a certain threshold that once a nation passes, it will greatly reduce the likelihood of kinetic warfare with other nations. Once that stage has been reached, then in 2020, wars become fought mainly in the economical and information/media domain( see US v Iran or China). Therefore, unmanned aerial vehicles do not change the dynamics between such nations too much. All this will hold for as long as the human fear of consequences keeps our action in check (e.g. the Mutually Assured Destruction doctrine). This issue of A.I is a whole other topic, but to keep it short, A.I not implemented correctly can lead to suspension of correct judgement/fear and as a consequence create catastrophe.
