Rafael Advanced Defense Systems will unveil the new Spike missile, the 2nd SPIKE ER, at the international security exhibition MSPO, which will open this week in Kielce, Poland. Rafael has sold about 30,000 missiles to 30 countries around the world. The SPIKE ER2 has an improved launch range compared to its previous version (SPIKE ER) and can be launched for ranges of 10 km from the ground and 16 km from the air.
The SPIKE ER 2 is highly penetrable for a variety of purposes, with an advanced, multi-purpose warhead that can be launched from all Spike missile launchers. One of the improvements included in SPIKE ER 2 is a wired version with an RF-based radio channel (unlike a fiber optic in the previous version). This communication channel, which constitutes a two-way channel (control and video), maximizes the missile's energy capability, thereby increasing its flight range.
The new missile has an innovative double head with a thermal sensor and a high-resolution day display that enables the detection of targets at large ranges. In addition, the new missile incorporates a special target tracker that enables the fusion of real-time information and a significant ability to trace targets in a smoky combat environment. The technology that is at the top of the missile's advanced domestication enables the detection of disguised targets by switching during flight between channels - a unique ability for the new spike missiles.
The Spike missile family is composed of a variety of types of missiles that can be launched from land, sea, and submarine platforms with ranges of 0.5 km to 30 km. More than 5,000 Spike missiles have already been launched by the system's customers, including the IDF.
Raphael's smart Spike missiles are the forerunner of today's technology in the world, along with operational evidence on the ground. Rafael intends to offer the new missile to a number of procurement programs in the world as a heated or advanced weapon, advanced and deadly, which will enable the survival of the combat helicopters, as well as mounted armament and long-range 5-day days.
In addition to exposing the new configuration, last week the Australian government announced the selection of another Spike missile, the SPIKE LR 2, the 5th generation, as the future missile to be installed on the new Australian Boxer vehicles
