HANGOL: A new island was discovered three kilometers off the coast of Balochistan near Hangol on Friday.
The island is about 3km long and 3km wide and is 90 feet above the sea level.
Geologists believe the island surfaced as a result of seismic activity in the coastal area. The island is not brown but mostly white in color.
The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forums (PFF) Sami Ibraheem told Express 24/7 that as many as 100 fishing boats were trapped as the new island surfaced and blocked their route.
Panic gripped the fishing community around Hangol as they feared the island might explode or cause destruction in the area.
Interestingly, Express 24/7 correspondent Masror Hausen, said that the island is not new but it had emerged around 10 years ago before disappearing again.
