A man in Florida was hit and killed by a high-speed train on Sunday — the fourth person to die since the train's service began earlier this year, investigators said.

"At 12:47 p.m. a northbound Brightline train struck a pedestrian approximately 100 feet south of the Southeast 4th Street crossing. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene," the Delray Police Department tweeted, adding that they were seeking witnesses.

A Brightline spokesperson told Fox News via email that preliminary information suggests the death was a suicide. The company is working with local authorities in their investigation.

The private train line "offers express service connecting you to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach," according to the company's website.

“From initial information gathered it appears yesterday’s incident was a suicide," the company told Fox News in a statement on Monday. "Brightline continues working with the local authorities.”

Sunday's victim was the fourth person to be struck and killed by a high-speed train since service began in January. Among the other deaths: a 51-year-old man on a bicycle, and a 32-year-old woman, both of whom tried and failed to beat oncoming trains after the gates had lowered, police told the Palm Beach Post.

Three other people have been hit and survived, officials said.

Patrick Goddard, Brightline's COO and president, said in January that the company was working with transportation officials to raise awareness about the train/

"We implore the public to be patient and not circumvent the safety devices in place to keep you safe," Goddard said. "Your life is worth more than waiting a few extra seconds for a train to pass."

What is the point of this article? 3 out of 4 death were either suicide or the person being stupid and cross the crossing illegally. With the 4th case unknown.....most likely suicide

.
One thing is for sure, the Train was faster then 3 out of the 4 people thought.
The gate closing for the brightline is 42 seconds. Don't blame the train; in fact I think this train would be perfect for Pakistan; Top Speed 127 kmph in the areas from Miami to West Palm Beach, 177 Kmph from West Palm Beach to Cocoa, and 201 kmph from Cocoa to Orlando. Pakistan plans to rebuild Main Line 1 at a top speed of 160 kmph based on the quality and design of the sleepers (the rails and concrete ties in between them), but in certain sections that are straight and level, Pakistan could use higher end sleepers, and get the benefits of high speed at a reasonable cost.

Grade separation is very expensive, so In places like Pakistan employing Police or the military at Road/Rail crossings would be a more reasonable expenditure to prevent this.

Many people misjudge the distant of a on-coming train due to the fact that it doesn't look coming in really fast.

That is an optical illusion, however, due to the fact that train is enormous and most track are straight line, which mean the distant cover may not look at far if you are looking at a locomotive 90 degree heads on. Instead it was travelling at 70mph.
