ISLAMABAD: The new Islamabad international airport including its signal free approach road would be completed by October 2016.
This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary Raja Javed Ikhlas while replying to a question of Naeema Kishwar Khan in the National Assembly on Friday.
He said the project, inaugurated in 2007 had been delayed due to various reasons. The cases against those who were involved in corruption were being sent to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The initial cost of the project has already been enhanced to Rs82 billion from Rs38 billion.
The project cost is likely to enhance further as the new land has to be purchased for constructing new runway.
Parliamentarians expressed concern over delay in the construction of new Islamabad airport project.
Replying to a question of Sheikh Rohail Asghar, he said the actual cost had been increased by Rs10,191 million due to currency fluctuations and inflation.
Replying to a question of Mohammad Muzammil Qureshi,Javed Ikhlas said 15 aircraft were being added to the fleet of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for enhancing efficiency.
He said the PIA was being restructured. The Privatisation Commission has been tasked to carry forward the privatization of core activities of national airline by divesting 26 per cent of shares with complete management.
The privatisation commission has hired a financial adviser in this regard to offset the airline from recurring losses and to improve service for the passengers.
PIA was provided Rs16 billion in 2014 and $52 million in 2015 for acquiring five ATR and 10 A-320 aircraft on lease.
State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab told the National Assembly that the new survey would be conducted for giving financial assistance to deserving people of far flung areas under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
Replying to a question of Shakila Nauman, he said in many districts the facility of BISP is non-existant.
