Streaming pioneer Netflix has picked up and launched its first ever Pakistani drama serials.

Netflix members will now be able to watch drama serials by screen writer Momina Duraid which include ‘Humsafar,’ ‘Zindagi Gulzaar Hay’ and ‘Sadqay Tumhare’ on the global streaming service.

“Netflix California portal picks and launches its first ever Pakistani drama serials Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzaar hay and Sadqay Tumharay. Big milestone for Pakistan digital industry. Congratulations Team Humsafar, Team Zindagi gulzar hay and Team Sadqay Tumharay,” director Momina Durraid wrote on Facebook.

The television giant launched in Pakistan in January this year.

California-based Netflix, which began as a mail-order DVD service but is now producing award-winning original content alongside its offering of older shows and movies, launched in 2007. Now, 70 million subscribers pay a monthly fee for unlimited service.

The company has been shifting from recycling old shows and movies to producing more original content, with its shows such as the award-winning “House of Cards” and “Orange, Is the New Black.” However, availability of original content could differ from country to country due to local licensing deals.

It hasn’t been too long since the famous worldwide content streaming app Netflix came to Pakistan, and now judging from their latest move, it’s pretty clear that they plan to score big over here too.

Netflix has finally launched Pakistani drama serials, a move that is expected to make the service more popular in our country.

Famous Director Momina Durraid wrote on Facebook:

As mentioned above, Netflix users in Pakistan will now be available to watch the following drama serials:

Humsafar

The drama serial originally aired on a famous Pakistani TV channel called HUM TV from 24th September 2011 to 3rd March 2012.

Zindagi Gulzaar Hai

Zindagi Gulzaar Hai is a very popular Pakistani romance based soup opera, directed by Sultana Siddiqui and produced by Momina Duraid of Moomal Productions. This show was broadcasted originally on HUM TV as well from 30th November 2012 to May 2013 in Pakistan. Sadqay Tumhare is another drama serial which was aired on HUM TV back in 2014. This drama serial is a bio-geographical romantic drama serial which was based on the life of the show’s writer himself, Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar. The show opened with a hit rating of 6.0 TRPs (Television Rating Points) and won the Best Drama Serial Popular for the 3rd Hum Awards in 2015.

Concluding Thoughts
It is good to see Netflix adding local Pakistani media content to its ever-growing catalog of tv shows and movies. If Netflix truly wants to become a global media behemoth, steps such as these can help the company connect with local users more than ever.

Here’s to hoping the US-based company brings more Pakistani drama serials to its stable, especially after bringing offline playback to its app.
