I hope many people dont know about it so i thought of sharing it with you guys

MSL Advanced Towed Array Sonar (ATAS)

A towed array sonar developed by Maritime Systems Ltd. (MSL) and MTC to replace old systems in service with the Pakistan Navy (PN) and for export. Project started during 1990s, Commodore S. Sarfraz appointed as program chief. System was designed to cope with Arabian Sea environment and is stated to be superior to foreign systems being offered for export. Expected to be installed on Agosta 70 and Agosta 90B class submarines currently in service with the PN, also being integrated with the Agosta 90B's SUBTICS combat management system, as well as future vessels to be acquired by the PN such as new submarines and corvettes.

A towed array sonar is a sonar array that is towed behind a submarine or surface ship. It is basically a long cable, up to 5000 m, with hydrophones that is trailed behind the ship when deployed. The hydrophones are placed at specific distances along the cable. On the first few hundred meters near the ship's propeller there are usually none since their effectiveness would be reduced by noise, vibration and turbulence generated by the propulsion. Surface ships often have the sonar array mounted on a cable which pulls a tow vehicle (an ROV - see Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System) behind the mother ship, or on another cable which trails from the ROV connector. By changing the ROV's depth, the sensor can be deployed in different thermal layers.

such news from NESCOM is traditionally confidential. Unless approved from the ministry of Defense.

My family has been in business with and continues to be in business with NESCOM. I guess that is enough to tell you that as far as my understanding goes, exporting ATAS might be a dream but not a practical ground reality.

Hush, hush from now on.

PS:- NESCOM is under the executive control of the Cabinet Divison not the MoD.

Hi,

Are they making something that came move in front of the sub--a leading edge probe in the front---.

Salam, It is good to hear that they have made it. but i want to ask you a question that what does NESCOM stands for? and is it the centre for electronics and electrical research for Pakistan's Military and as well as for Pakistanis.
If yes then why Pakistan didn't invest in doing joint-development of different electronics(navigation-communication suite, countermeasure suite, basic powerfull computer used in ships/subs/jets/tanks) and sensors(like air defence/surface defence for coastal areas radars and AEW&C systems and those systems which are used in air defence missles).

NESCOM stands for National Engineering and Scientific Commission.

It is a civilian controlled organization based in Islamabad comprised of more than 80,000 scientists and engineers

Apart from sonar they are also producing many other things like

Babur cruise missile
H2 and H4 bvr precision guided glide bombs
Burraq UCAV and its related missile

Thank you very much but i wanted to ask you that isnt it better for Pakistan to make centre for electronics and electrical research for Pakistan's Military and as well as for Pakistan's commercial use.
Then Pakistan could invest in doing joint-development of different electronics(navigation-communication suite, countermeasure suite, basic powerfull computer used in ships/subs/jets/tanks) so they deign the aircraft architechture on to it as well as combat management system and tank fire control and management system, and sensors(like air defence Radars/surface defence Radars for coastal areas and AEW&C systems and those systems which are used in air defence missles and other weapons also).
