Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid Tuesday commenting on China?s act of taking control of Pakistan's Gwadar Port that raised tension in India, said that there was a need to maintain a balance between India and China over the strategic Gwadar port issue.
"These are internal matters of Pakistan and China and when we get an opportunity we participate. There is no competition between us. We also participate and take steps, which are beneficial for them and for their friends," Khurshid told media here.
"We try to maintain a balance in our country and there is a need to take steps to maintain this balance between India and China on this issue," he added.
China yesterday took control of Pakistan's Gwadar Port located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf just outside the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The official transfer of Concession Agreement from the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) to the China Overseas Port Holding Company was carried out in the presence of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari.
In January, Pakistan's cabinet had approved the transfer of Gwadar Deep Sea Port to the Chinese.
