Hey does any one know if I want to send a laptop of 614 Canadian dollar with 240 Canadian dollar discount how much customs may charge VAT on that?

Just yesterday I have sent 2 hand watch for my dad and bro worth 305 Canadian dollar and 365 dollar including shipping through FedEx. Any idea how much my dad will have to pay tax for that?

In the internet so far did not get any reliable answer.

Thanks

No idea with shipping though carriers but as far as I know if anyone carries his laptop(new) with himself they don't charge a dime('cos I've seen many do so) . Even few years ago when I bought an electric guitar they didn even look at it though everyone was telling I'll be ripped.

Therefore its better if you can carry it yourself or send it with someone rather than carriers.

If you did mention the price then you are screwed. Discount does not count here. They will go for published price. First they will charge you 40% fine for not having PSI (pre shipment inspection). On top of that they will charge you whatever the tax is and minimum 3500 BDT.
For laptop you could get away with 3500 tax + 40% fine probably but for watch it might be 100 or 200% tax not sure addition to 40% fine.

I always have a invoice for say 5 dollar for any item and then pay 3500 minimum tax and fine 40% say 2 dollar and get away with them. And ofcourse I pay some bribes.. LOL

But it always depends on the custom officer and how he settle the original price of the item. They are pretty strict on watch camera etc.

Bro really thanks for the detail info... if they really charge 200% tax then I am screwed.... I am just wondering why they will impose penalty on it... as I have sent that from Canada/USA as the shop is located there... to my dad's name and he has no involvement whatsoever in it and it is a gift... not with any bd money.... n regarding declare money there I could do almost nothing as I purchased it online and they shipped it.... If they really gonna charge vat in this manner then people those who are living abroad will not send any gift to their family or will be encouraged to pass the product illegally... means through other people without mentioning the real price.... :S.
