PUNE: The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune celebrated National Technology Day 2010 on Tuesday. The function was attended by scientists and technologists of the laboratory.
The Chief Guest for the function was IOFS, General Manger, Ammunition Factory, Kirkee, B. N. Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Singh stressed on the need of automation to scale up and establish economically viable mass production technology so that we can meet the requirement of defence services and also can compete with developed countries when we enter as a global player.
He further added that requirement of constant upgradation of technologies is the need of hour and in this area DRDO can help the Ordnance Factories.
Director, HEMRL, Dr. A Subhananda Rao, who presided over the function highlighted the significant achievements made by India in the fields of nuclear and defence technologies.
He also narrated the recent successes of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) like induction of Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) in Army, successful test firings of BrahMos missile and launching of Indias indigenously built Nuclear Powered Submarine INS Arihant in the sea.
Earlier, a technical session was arranged where technical papers on various technologies developed in the laboratory were presented by a few scientists of the Laboratory. Awards were given to the best three technical papers presented. Also awards were given to the best two employees for their innovative ideas contributing to the technology development.
The coveted Technology Rolling Trophy for the best technology 2010 of HEMRL was awarded to Scientist E P. S. Kumbhar and his teamfrom mechanical engineering division for the work on development of special purpose machines for high energy materials processing.
Later, Singh handed over the Commendation Certificate and Gold Medal issued by Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri to Scientist E S. M. Danali for technology day oration on Development of Advanced Pyro Devices.
