ISLAMABAD: The Defence Committee of the Cabinet met here on Thursday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair.
The Cabinets Defence Committee decided to revive the National Security Council to deal with challenges facing the country. Defence Minister, three services chief and Prime Ministers adviser Sartaj Aziz would be the members of the body headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
According to reports, the National Security Council would monitor strategic, defence and other sensitive issues.
The meeting was briefed by the Director General of Military Operations over the situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and other security matters. It was decided that talks would be held with India to normalise relations and New Delhi should abide by the ceasefire agreement at the LoC.
The committee also decided that dialogue with militants would only be held in they gave up their arms and renounced violence. If militants failed to do so force would be used.
The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Prime Ministers Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and services chiefs.
This was the first ever sitting of the body since elections on May 11, 2013.
