SPECULATION that NASA’s Curiosity Rover has found life on Mars has been thrown into overdrive with the space agency announcing an urgent press conference.
In a press release, NASA said it would be holding a conference to detail “a major science finding from the agency’s ongoing exploration of Mars”.
This is not the first time NASA has used a press conference to announce a groundbreaking discovery, with the space agency doing the same earlier this year to reveal it had discovered the Earth-like planet Kepler-452b.
Jim Green, director of planetary science at NASA, and Michael Meyer, lead scientist for the Mars Exploration Program, will be leading the announcement.
Lujendra Ojha of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta — who detailed his belief that the red planet has liquid salt water flowing during its warmer months — will also be attendance.
This has led to the belief NASA could be confirming it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars, instead of alien life.
Author of the UFO Investigation Manual Nigel Watson agreed the announcement would likely be related to the flowing water theory.
“When I first heard about NASA’s forthcoming announcement I immediately wondered if they had found some form of microscopic life there,” he told Journal Telegraph.
“It seems more likely that they have found water on Mars, which is the next best thing as it would indicate the possibility that life has clung onto this planet or existed there in the past.”

Although, Mr Watson admits he still hopes NASA will give details of microscopic life found on Mars.
“For the more conspiracy minded they might wonder if NASA will announce that one of the many artefacts or structures seen in pictures sent back to Earth is real, or that they have found some form of alien base,” he said.
“That would be a massive intellectual and philosophical bombshell for humanity to cope with, though the odds of this, to use the words of Wells, is likely to be ‘a million to one’.”
The conference will be held at 4.30am AEST on Tuesday September 29 at the James Webb Auditorium at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
As part of the event, members of the public will be able to ask questions during the briefing using #AskNASA.
