The Pakistani warning of a nuclear strike on India within eight seconds, as reported in a British daily, was actually made at the behest of former president Pervez Musharraf, according to Daily Times.

The news report published on Friday by The Guardian said Pakistan could launch a nuclear strike on India within eight seconds, an army general boasted in 2001 in Islamabad.

The warning has been described in the latest volume of former British communications director Alastair Campbells’ diaries, The Burden of Power, it said.

On Saturday, writing in the Daily Times from London, Asif Mehmood said it was Musharraf who conveyed the n-strike threat through his generals to assert that it could be possible if India did not “stop killing of its own people” and putting the blame on “freedom fighters”.

Campbell was told about the eight-second threat over a dinner in Islamabad Oct 5, 2001, hosted by Musharraf.

In his diaries, Alistair Campbell writes: “At dinner I was between two five-star generals who spent most of the time listing atrocities for which they held the Indians responsible, killing their own people and trying to blame ‘freedom fighters’.

“They were pretty convinced that one day there would be a nuclear war because India, despite its vast population and despite being seven times bigger, was unstable and determined to take them out.”

“When the time came to leave, the livelier of the two generals asked me to remind the Indians that ‘it takes us eight seconds to get the missiles over’, then flashed a huge toothy grin,” he added.

Musharraf was the cheap to say the least he even used to sell pakistani and foreign students as Taliban and earn dollars from USA.

Ya ya ya Musharraf was/is and will always be in delusion like some of our Pak friends. I am glad he is thrown out of the country(hiding)
It's good for both countries.

Lions ??? Good.
War isn't inevitable. Still evenif I am stunned to see Pak members reply. I don't want war because it will take India back by 50 years.
Pakistan will be wiped out of Map in the reply. But still Pak members are so eager for war. Strange. Not flaming anything and not overestimating or underestimating anything.
Why would one want to see his own motherland destroyed just to destroy enemy ???

Whatever, he was still the best chance of solving the Kashmir problem.

Really???? :woot:

Actually he was the problem.

Two civilians Vajpayee and nawaz sharif was solving problem but he goes onto back stab both India and pakistan and gets pakistan defamed in the world and thousands of pakistani army troops died because of him.

I recall the back channel diplomacy on Kashmir issue was after Kargil.

It was a bluff, basically musharraf was saying: tell your friends, if they dare attack us .....

International diplomacy does not work that way bro.
There are give and take involved.
Why do you think Indians love Musharraf that any other rulers of pakistan. :)
He was one guy who was willing to bend(all dictators are weak) while appearing strong to his crowd. Suited us really well.
