Malala's enemy: Mullah Fazlullah hiding in Afghanistan, US officials confirm

WASHINGTON: US officials have confirmed that notorious Mullah Fazlullah, a commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, is hiding in Afghanistan, The Washington Post (WP) reported on Wednesday.
Fazlullah was reportedly behind the attack on teenage child rights activist Malala Yousufzai.
Citing unnamed US officials, the WP report stated that the Taliban leader has escaped retribution by hiding in a section of eastern Afghanistan where the US forces are present but focused on other targets.
“Finding Fazlullah is not a priority because he is not affiliated with al Qaeda or with insurgents targeting US and Afghan interests”, the officials said as per the report.
“Our guys just aren’t tracking him,” a senior Special Operations official said. “He is viewed as an ‘other-side-of-the-border’ problem.”
Malala was attacked by Taliban gunmen on October 9, when she was returning home from school. She was shifted to the UK for medical treatment.
Pakistan has repeatedly asked the US to hunt down Fazlullah, even handing over a dossier on him to authorities, but scant action has been taken.

USA's double standard's on WOT.They are simply saying he is not our problem to track and eliminate him in afghanistan.

U.S. military and intelligence officials said that Mullah Fazlullah, the mastermind of the attack on 15-year-old Malala Yousafzai, operates out a region adjoining Pakistan where several hundred U.S. troops are stationed. But they said finding Fazlullah is not a priority because he is not affiliated with al-Qaeda or with insurgents targeting U.S. and Afghan interests.

“Our guys just aren’t tracking him,” a senior Special Operations official said. “He is viewed as an ‘other-side-of-the-border’ problem.”

also

“The FATA is difficult [for insurgents] because there are drone strikes,” said a congressional staffer, using the acronym for semi-autonomous Federally Administered Tribal Areas on the Pakistan side of the border. “It’s easier to be in eastern Afghanistan where there’s no real presence” of U.S. troops

that busts the bubble of those who claim that US is targetting militiants in eastern afghanistan also.

Reporters tend to don't know jack crap. But in any case lets go further in the article then.

Tom Collins, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, said: “ISAF is maintaining steady pressure on insurgents throughout Afghanistan. Mullah Fazlullah, like many insurgents who are transitory, remains a person of interest. If we receive actionable intelligence that he is in Afghanistan, we will attempt to take him off the battlefield.”

See the contradiction here?

Yes everyone can see the contradiction in NATO/US stance towards Fazlullah

Who killed the leader of the Pakistan Taliban? I didn't see you guys go kill Osama Bin Laden.

Special Operations official please!!! Reporters couldn't even tell the difference between apc and a tank just cause it has a turret and gun on it.

. .
First there was denial that Fazlullah is hiding in Afghanistan , then anger was directed at Pakistan when Pakistan demanded that US/NATO forces should move to deny the defeated mullah fazlullah space to operate from in Afghanistan and now just flat out refusal to do anything about him!!

And there was denial that Osama was ever in Pakistan when in fact he was there. You want Fazlullah, go get him yourself if you know where he is.

Didn't do anything against the Haqqani network and we have to go use drones and raids to get to them.

It proves one thing that its actually usa which is running with hares and hunting with hounds and all this time it was blaming pakistan for double dealing on WOT.

I do not for a second believe that the strike on Baitullah Mehsud was done to facilitate Pakistan , if that was the case he would have been taken out much earlier.

Let me jog your memory bit, before Baitullah , there was another turd whom the US released from Guantnamo , he was Abdullah Mehsud

How is it that there are numerous people still in Guatanamo and this turd was released and when he gets back to Pakistan he starts terrorist activities? US must have cut some deal with him for his release!

When Pakistan forces caught up with him he blew himself up like a coward and after him came baitullh, who was left to do his dastardly deeds till he became too big for his smelly boots.
Same with this Fazlullah , he is being given protection in Afghanistan or if not direct protection then US is choosing to look the other way while he hides safely in eastern afghanistan

The CIA used these type of people in the fight against soviets and there are those in the CIA who still view these type of people as a means to an end.

Osama bin Laden was also your tool that you lost and whether he was indeed killed that night is still doubtfull , US can put the doubts to rest by showing the pictures , I can assure you that no one really liked OBL so much that they'll react to seeing his dead body, contrary to what you people have been fed .. OBL was not someone whom the vast majority of muslims looked up to.

Which is it, if they arent tracking him how do they know he is in Afghanistan?

.
fazlullah was a threat when he was across the border because US had something to blame on Pak, now sitting in afghanistan he is not a threat

i have been telling this all the time, pakistan is just a scape goat this whole WOT is a farce, and american pressure on pakistan is nothing but a gimick to blame their own war failures on someone like pakistan

pakistan can try a million times but neither US nor pak can win this war on their respective sides

Fazlullah hiding in Afghanistan: US

US confession belies Afghan stance on Fazlullah

Bastard

ISLAMABAD: The US military's confession that Mullah Fazlullah was hiding in a section of eastern Afghanistan has simply belied the October 28, 2012 declaration by Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) that the most wanted Pakistani Taliban commander was not hiding in Afghanistan and that he was in fact operating from the Pakistani territory under the protection of Qari Ziaur Rehman, an al-Qaeda linked Taliban commander.

The US admission has also given credence to some Pakistani intelligence reports that several key leader of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, including Mullah Fazlullah, are not only being sheltered in Afghanistan but some of them have already been issued Temporary Travel Documents (TTD) to facilitate their cross border movements. The sources say Fazlullah and five other fugitive commanders of the Tehrik-e-Taliban have already been advised by the Afghan intelligence community to accept foreign identity so that the Karzai administration Kabul can forcibly refute Pakistani claims about their presence in Afghanistan. Pakistani establishment alleges that the Afghan intelligence agencies and the governor of Kunar Province, Fazlullah Wahidi, are backing Mullah Fazlullah and his private Army.

Kabul remains in a state of denial about his presence in Afghanistan despite having been provided credible information about his precise locations in the Kamadesh and Chapa Dara districts of the Nuristan and Kunar provinces. But the Washington Post has reported November 7 while quoting senior US military and intelligence officials that Fazlullah, the mastermind of the assassination attempt on Malala Yousafzai, operates from an Afghan area adjoining Pakistan where several hundred US troops are currently stationed. But US officials also made it clear that finding Fazlullah was not a priority because he was not affiliated either with al-Qaeda or with insurgents targeting American and Afghan interests in Afghanistan. "Our guys just aren't tracking him. Mullah Fazlullah is viewed as an 'other-side-of-the-border' problem", The Washington Post reported.

Fazlullah is responsible for a spate of cross-border ambushes against the Pakistani security forces, which have killed more than 100 soldiers. Therefore, Islamabad has repeatedly asked Kabul to hunt him down, even handing over a dossier on him to the Karzai administration as well as the military leadership of the US-led Allied Forces in Afghanistan. But scant action has been taken, with the National Directorate of Security refuting Pakistani officials' claims regarding the presence of Fazlullah in Afghanistan. Shafiqullah Tahiri, a spokesman for Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security strongly refuted on October 28 the presence of Fazlullah in Afghanistan. Tahiri had stated: "Pakistan has specific motives behind such a baseless allegation. They are trying to create tensions among the Afghans to cover up their interference in Afghanistan as the international community is well aware of certain individuals in Pakistan's ISI who are interfering in the Afghan affairs."

However, Tahiri's stance stands contradicted following US military's confession that Fazlullah was hiding in Afghanistan. But the Americans have also made it clear that proceeding against the Taliban commander was not their priority. The US stance is no different than the Pakistani stance which also refuses to act against the Haqqani network, despite repeated demands from Washington and Kabul to take the battle against terrorism into North Waziristan and cleanse it of terrorists like the Haqqanis who are carrying out cross border ambushes inside Afghanistan and targeting the Afghan and the US-led Allied Forces.
