Forbes has released the list of most corrupt countries in Asia. According to the list, India is the MOST CORRUPT country in Asia. Pakistan gets the 4th rank. Good to see Pakistan improving, still lot of work to do.

But what happened with India? Is it due to Modi?

Here is the list:

1. India: 69% bribery rate

In five of the six public services—schools, hospitals, ID documents, police, and utility services—more than half the respondents have had to pay a bribe. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fight against corruption has made a mark: 53% of the people think he is going it fairly or very well. And it has led to people feeling empowered, as 63% believe ordinary people can make a difference.

2. Vietnam: 65% bribery rate

Vietnamese view corruption as endemic. Of all 16 countries surveyed, people in Vietnam (and Malaysia) were the most negative about the situation in their country. About 60% felt their government is doing a poor job of combatting corruption.

3. Thailand: 41% bribery rate

Thailand has struggled with corruption charges at all levels—even government officials—leading the current ruling military junta to tighten the Anti-Corruption Act in 2015. But the Thai people seem optimistic. Just 14% feel corruption had increased in last 12 months, and nearly 72% think the government is handling the fight against corruption fairly or very well.

4. Pakistan: 40% bribery rate

In Pakistan, about three-fourths of respondents perceive most or all of the police to be corrupt. Of the people who encountered either the police or the courts, nearly 7 in 10 had to pay a bribe. Sadly, people don’t feel things can change—only a third think ordinary people can make a difference.

5. Myanmar: 40% bribery rate

Despite a 2013 Anti-Corruption Law, about half of the respondents believe that most or all police are corrupt, and 40% believe the judiciary is corrupt. But things might be getting better—at least in the eyes of the people. Less than a fourth believe corruption has increased over the last year.

Never even imagined that UP election results will cause so much pain .... :D :D better go to countries where you can see non Hindus are in majority ... hopefully they are least corrupt and you will find Eutopia

Refrain from personal attacks and tell us your opinion about why corruption in India has increased and she is rated the most corrupt country in Asia under Modi?

Wasn't he supposed to finish corruption all together?

Corruption is an epidemic but it has nothing to do with religeon , hope you understand this guy relates it with religeon . In India things are going online so that corruption can be cribbed ..like gas subsidy direct in accounts , passport process pretty much corruption free , all accounts are connected with Adhar .... Govt is working to improve the condition but still India is pretty much impacted due to corruption.

The OP is being clever and giving partial information.

Bribery is only one form of corruption.

The gold standard for corruption index is transperancy international and their index gives India a rank of 79 and Pakistan a rank of 116.

At the end of the day there is corruption everywhere. Not so long ago a US congressman was arrested with $100k in his freezer. I don't know if it is possible to cut out corruption entirely without severe restrictions on personal freedoms.

Corruption exist everywhere even in those pretty little Scandinavian countries, it's just a question of scale. Of course India is very corrupt no doubt about that...even more so under congress ...AAP in Delhi founded on an anti corruption platform is now riddled with corruption scams!

Modi or no Modi, India will remain this shit, on this account.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

The most corrupt countries in the whole world are Syria, North Korea, Somalia and South Sudan with not a single Hindu in sight. How do you explain that?

I should report you for racist bigotry!

What an idiotic list...
How come bribery is the definition of corruption?
There are lots of other different parameters to define a corrupt country...
According to transparency international India is the least corrupt in this region & ranks 79 where Pakistan ,Myanmar stand above 100.....

that is always a source of bribery- when your govt pay does not keep up with decent quality of living.
It's not just about decent quality of living. If you look at a lot of the politicians in our part of the world. They steal more than they or their great grandchildren can use in their lifetimes. Sonia stole $2 billion . The DMK , Jayalalitha, Laloo ...and in Pakistan people like Zardari....it's like it's never enough For them....and they set the example for the rest of the country.

The only way to reduce this is to make systems more transparent esp. land deals and reduce cash ....more bank transactions ....etc etc....
