ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (Mobilink) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Special Communications Organisation (SCO) to initiate infrastructure sharing between the two companies in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
According to Mobilinks announcement made here on Wednesday, under this agreement, Mobilink and SCO shall share tower and backhaul media as part of infrastructure sharing arrangements. This arrangement will allow both organisations to economically manage their growing subscriber base in the urban and rural areas of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
Moreover, this initiative aims to optimise the utilisation of energy and fuel resources, leading to reduced carbon emissions thus helping both organisations achieve broader environmental goals. Chief strategy officer Mobilink Tariq Rashid said At Mobilink, we are highly conscious of our corporate social responsibility and we make continuous efforts to strategically optimise our utilisation of Pakistans precious resources. This collaboration with SCO is a continuation of similar arrangements made in the past as part of our commitment to expand our cellular network while ensuring the protection of Pakistans ecology and environment.
The network sharing initiative is driven by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) and the government of Pakistan as a means of providing an economical and environment friendly option for cellular companies to expand their network coverage and services.
