Ministries mishandle media team during press briefing on PM Gilani Visit

July 30, 2008. According to the report, Hussain haqqani had an argument with journalists and reporters in Washington. The reporters kept asking questions when Hussain Haqqani didn't budge from advocating the US cause. Hussain Haqqani went berserk and threatened that he won't invite reporters to a press briefing in the future. Reporters responded in coin.

To a question, from a reporter from a Karachi-based weekly, about the US violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and death of innocent Pakistanis, Haqqani responded, "Were they your men so I could inquire US about them? Saddam also used to talk like this. Now see where he is?"

Over Haqqani's needless defence of the US policy, when a journalist asked him if he was the ambassador of the US or Pakistan, Haqqani went berserk.

Earlier a reporter asked Haqqani about having the US lapel flag side by side with the Pakistan's flag during the recent reception for Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Another diplomat standing beside Haqqani, responded that Haqqani has two nationalities and he was loyal to both.

Information minister Sherry Rehman also toed the line of Haqqani and clashed with the media men on several occasions. She exhorted the journalists to “learn the Etiquette norms of press briefing”. Upon it a reporter of local newspaper gave a tit for tat reply saying whether she had come here to give briefing on government stance or has come here in the capacity of school headmistress.

American and Pakistani media representatives present at the occasion declared Haqqani's sarcastic attitude as sad. Some reporters were not allowed to go to attend the dinner for the prime minister at Haqqani's house.

Arrogance always the sign of weak nerves, the above incident tell us a whole story of the capabilities of our politicians (sorry can't say them leader, as "leadership" is possible only with strong nerves, and capable to face & handle situations, absorb pressures, courage to pursue the crucial matters even during the worstiest situation). What they have left impression of Pakistani nation, on this specific occasion at international forum.
Do we think that, we can confront international issues with this pathetic class of diplomacy as shown by a diplomat + minister specially for information, during occasion stated above???

Now it's easily to understand the path of Pakistan's future. I can easily predict now to be prepared for any drastic change (which could be in the shape of government dismissal) in very near future.
