TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi addressed media reports saying that the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Retno discussed the normalization of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Israel during his visit to Jakarta on December 14. It was reported by The Jerusalem Post on Friday, December 24.

The report states that Blinken had raised the idea of Indonesia joining the Abraham Accord - brokered under the previous U.S. administration led by Donald Trump - with Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.

In response to this report, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah in a written statement on Friday confirmed that diplomatic ties with Israel were discussed in the meeting by Blinken.

According to Antaranews, Faizasyah said, “talks about Israel were raised by Secretary of State Blinken in his meeting with the Indonesian Minister in his visit to Jakarta.”

However, he said that Minister Retno Marsudi insisted that Indonesia’s position remains consistent with the people of Palestine and their current struggle for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

“Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi conveyed Indonesia's consistency towards Palestine and that Indonesia will continue with the Palestinian people to fight for justice and independence,” said the spokesperson.

The Abraham Accord, which the Biden’s administration is reportedly working to expand, is seeking to establish and “normalize” the diplomatic relations between Israel and Muslim-majority countries.

Now everyone is testing water. Let me show you how elites work when they want to push anti people agenda.

1. First start a discussion on the controversy. Make people discuss discuss disucss

I guess, eventually, Indonesia will recognize Israel if the US really push for it. Not that I am against it. States should be secular institutions, including that of Israel.

Blinken is Jewish himself, and leading a Jewish-American effort to achieve some victories for Israel. In reality, Muslim peoples not concerned with Israel or having ties with them. They are focused on development/security of their own nations. It's only Jewish-American entities of US which pushing for this. People will still oppose them forever.

Our leaders are not testing the water, but our leaders are clarifying the news posted by Israel media talking about normalization effort by Blinken when he visited Indonesia. The Israel media doesnt show the Indonesian respond which is rejecting Blinken normalization effort. It is why we need to clarify it.

Surely US officials leak the confidential conversation between Blinken and Indonesian FM

The biggest enemy of Israel is secular, nationalist and modernizing Arabs, whether Sunni, Shia or Christians. It is due to this backdrop that British supported Ibn Saud to overthrow millenian keeper of Shrine, the Hashimite. The Hashimite is arch enemy against Balfour. Then British and US told everyone the sand nigger bandit ways of Islam is true Islam, setting back Arab intellectual advancement.

This is the biggest masterstroke in pushing back Arab modernization by the west, although the West has took down several progressive monarch earlier.

Many Arab intellect and nationalist are waiting for the right opportunity to regain Arab independence.

If an Arab Muslim majority country like Egypt that had several wars with Israel and even occupied by Israel, can have formal relations with it, I don't see why Indonesia cannot do the same while supporting the Palestinian cause. It's a win-win situation. Indonesia can benefit a lot from collaboration with Israel in Aerospace, Agriculture, Science & Technology sectors.

Even Iran support detente with Israel, only after she implement the 2 state solution.

I could say the same thing about India and China. Why don't you guys patch up with China and get with the program?

For us in Bangladesh - China is a more reliable development partner.

Brother @Indos can maybe speak for Indonesia...

China is probably more advanced and has more accessible appropriate technology in all these areas.

If you ask ten people on the street right now in Tel Aviv, nine of them want to go visit China tomorrow.

I will not go into tired clichés why....

Even though India has a lot of differences with China, there is still large amount of trade between them and in fact it is increasing even with the border tensions. Personally I do prefer China as a partner to India rather than Western, but that is a discussion for another thread.

Bzzzzt! Wrong. :-)

Not Happening.

You go ask any Muslim Majority Country - you will get the same answer.

Many of these countries train Palestinian students (Doctors and Engineers) for free.
