Yeah, but even people from 150 years ago had to go through a standard immigration process. For instance those coming by boat on the East coast were funneled through Ellis island. There was no guarantee you'd be allowed into the country.

Back then if you snuck onto a ship and jumped overboard at some other port you got arrested. These present day border jumpers don't understand that and think we have some open border policy.
