Hospital pays visitors £44 every time they take a poo… now they’re clogged up with volunteers
A HOSPITAL has a backlog of volunteers queuing up to make a donation - after bosses offered £44 for every poo sample.
Doctors at L'hôpital Saint-Antoine in Paris will use the stools for research into bowel disease.
They want members of the public to provide samples which will be used for "faecal transplant".
The experimental procedure involves injecting human waste into patients with depleted levels of healthy bacteria.
After an advert offering 50 euros per sample, a hospital helpline has been clogged with inquiries.
Hospital chiefs told France Info: "The telephone number given on the appeal has been overloaded."
Doctors at the Clinical Research Centre of Eastern Paris are looking into whether faecal transplant will benefit patients with the inflammatory bowel condition ulcerative colitis.
A notice in the hospital, which was widely shared on social media, said the clinic is seeking "healthy volunteers to provide one (or more) donations of stools".
Anyone hoping to make ends meet through the scheme must meet the conditions.
Volunteers have to be aged between 18 and 49, be registered with the French social security system, and not be undergoing any medical treatment.
