QUETTA: The mastermind of the August 8 carnage at the Civil Hospital and four other high-profile terrorists were killed in a raid in Pishin district on Monday.

Around 72 people – including 53 top lawyers of Balochistan – were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the midst of a crowd of lawyers who had gathered at the hospital to mourn the fatal shooting of Bilal Anwar Kasi, the president of the Balochistan Bar Association.

Analysis: The Quetta carnage was forewarned

“Jehangir Badini alias Ameer Sahab, the mastermind of the bombing, was among five militants killed in the raid in the Huramzai area of Pishin,” Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti told a news conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat where he was flanked by IGP Ahsan Mehboob and Home Secretary Akbar Harifal. Two Levies officials were also wounded in the operation, he said. However, he wouldn’t share details of the raid.

As part of the plan, Badini had shot dead Kasi and, when the body was driven to the Civil Hospital, the suicide bomber lurking there struck. Bugti said Law College Principal Barrister Amanullah Achakzai, SHO Sariab Mushtaq Ahmed, and four Hazara women were also killed by Badini.

Bugti claimed the ultra-extremist Middle Eastern group, Islamic State, or Da’ish, had no organised presence in Balochistan. “Militant groups, including TTP, Jaishul Islam and Lashkar-e-Jangvi Al Alami which have formed a symbiotic nexus are being funded by India’s RAW and Afghanistan’s NDS. These groups have been behind such targeted violence,” he added.

These groups, he claimed, had no links with Da’ish. “IS had tried to establish a foothold in Balochistan, but its cadres were killed in the border district of Nushki.”

Four Quetta hospital attack facilitators arrested

Bugti revealed that the hospital bomber has been identified through a DNA test a few days back. “He has been identified as Ahmed Ali, s/o Sajjad Ali, resident of Killi Dehba, Quetta,” Bugti added. “After the identification of the bomber we carried out the search operation in Huramzai last night.”

He said investigations into the police training centre carnage were under way. “We will share details once we complete the investigation process.” He added that the police had seized an explosives factory and recovered 42 kilos of explosives, five suicide jackets and other material.

Good news but I would have liked them to be bought to Justice.

We are so much defensive! They come and kill 50 of ours and we kill 3-4 of them on the spot. Then we investigate and attach the strings and kill 4-5 more of them and declare it as a victory and revenge for our martyrs.

This is not a good policy. The terrorists are conducting conventions in Islamabad, they are running seminaries in Islamabad, they are contesting elections in Jhang, their supporters are everywhere in Pakistan. This issue is never dealt seriously. We have to understand that this is a mindset.... they have fatwas of "QITAAL"..... they will keep their trade because their preachers have brainwashed them. Hejaz lost at the hands of such people due to these fatawas of qitaal. This mentality think that they are only Muslims and other are mushriks and wajib ul qatal. The TTP Apologists declared the fatawas of "QITAAL" on Minar e Pakistan.

Anti-terrorism strategy should be revisited. Otherwise the khawarij will keep launching their attacks because their aim is to give Pakistan a fate like Ottoman Empire. Ottomans lost at the hand of same extremist people who were backed by the crown. These Khawarij are also backed by the crown and its substitute states i.e. Europe and America. This is a sub-war and a continuation of crusades. They are using the khawarij again and they will keep using them because they have resources and channels.

I agree. I too have a very cynical view of the so called "progress" made by government and to an extent even law enforcement. Though it is difficult to stop every attack we should focus on no less. Every Pakistani life is valuable and must be safeguarded. But attacks are not stopping even if they have been reduced.

Also even though the low level terrorists often tend to get caught the real planners and top commanders almost always escape. We have to target the commanders. But reality is Mangal Bagh, Asmatullah Bhitani, Fazlullah, Sajna, Khan Said, Umar Mansoor are still alive and well. I know the sanctuaries in Afghanistan make it difficult to target them but much more has to be done in this regard.

Why give them death? Why give them something they want and have always wanted. They should be given a much worse punishment.

Also add Sami ul Haq, Fazlu Rehman in this list. The threat spectrum is wider than what we presume. One should live in their seminaries for few months and monitor and study the mindset being handed over to their next generations. They have an active doctrine to impose their firqa/ideology/agenda through QITAAL. For them, the Sunnis/Brelvis are mushriks, the shias are kafirs. They are ready to annihilate 80% of Pakistani population through their armed wings.

Internet and facebook is full of their propaganda. One can easily get a glimpse of the hate which they are carrying in their hearts against followers of Sufism and the 1400 year old existing Islam. Thats why their forefathers attacked the Hejaz and captured it and after capturing Hejaz, they attacked Najaf and Karbala but Muslims ceased their further attacks. Current Pakistani government has made alliance with this mindset due to their personal linkages with KSA, QATAR, KUWAIT, UAE and other wahabi countries. I was trying to avoid these names and terminologies. But it is necessary to name those for threat recognition.

Unfortunately, a minority sect was armed and empowered in 80's when the funds were coming from above mentioned countries and a deobandi Gen was all-in-all ruler of Pakistan. The advisors were also deobandis. We can see an amazing rise in deobandi/wahabi seminaries in those years in Pakistan. That decade strengthened their power equal to that of Sunnis in Pakistan. Sunni and Shia groups in Afghanistan were neglected even in Afghan War. The topic is lenghty and it also invites rage of many groups but it should be discussed. We need an Islamic Welfare State, the seculars show us the picture of British crown funded wahabism and declare it the true picture of Islam. Whereas the true Islam is peaceful and spiritual.

Most of the names that you quoted here are dead. But yeah we need to do more to kill the remaining rats in Afghanistan.

The reports about their deaths are unclear. I can remember countless times their deaths being reported and then statements and video links proving they were alive.

A lot is obscure in this game, but Kulbhushan showed us some of what is going on. My worry is that the commanders usually escape. I am most worried about umar mansoor and ataullah. Umar mansoor was the one responsible for APS among other attacks and Ataullah for the Malala attack. According to info neither have been caught yet. Such major terrorists alive and well pose a big national security threat.

Well most of their deaths are confirmed through various neutral sources and by Taliban themselves.

Umar Mansoor is also confirmed dead months ago. Both taliban and Pakistani official sources have confirmed his death.

I have heard other reports. But I hope and wish Umar Mansoor is dead. His Jamaat ul Ahrar though has claimed responsibility for the police academy attack other than other attacks. Lets hope for the utter ruination of the Taliban and its supporting mullahs.
