MUMBAI: The man who married 14 times after a failed marriage does not seem to have a single friend who is willing to bail him
out.
Navghar police officials on Thursday said no kin or friend had come forward to bail out the 40-year-old dismissed Air India engineer who was arrested for marrying several women in the last two-and-a-half years.
The accused targeted and married divorced or widowed women; he used to get in touch with the victims and their parents after going through their profiles registered with marriage portals.
Tushar Waghmare alias Tushar Bapat, formerly employed as an engineer with the technical department of Air India, was sacked on August 21 after the company learnt of his arrest. The AI is also conducting a departmental inquiry against Waghmare after several women employees complained of sexual harassment since 2006.
Waghmare was arrested on August 18 and was produced thrice in the Mulund metropolitan magistrate's court; but, on all three occasions, he was sent to police custody after no one came forward to bail him out, said inspector Shivaji Phadtare of Navghar police station in Mulund.
Waghmare has been booked for cheating and forgery and remanded to police custody till August 29.
Waghmare told the police that he did not have any friend or relative since his first wife divorced him in 2006 after his parents died of AIDS. ``Even his own brother, who resides with his family in Mumbai, has not bothered to come and meet him,'' Phadtare said.
Investigators said Waghmare revealed that he started marrying one woman after the other to become a father; he also wanted a girl child because he had to hand over his daughter's custody to his wife when their marriage ended after 11 years.
Waghmare was arrested on August 18 after a 29-year-old woman, a resident of Mulund (East) and an architect by profession, learnt about his past marriages and complained to cops.
