Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said his ministry had provided a list of 734 Lashkar-e-Jhangvi activists to the Punjab government for their immediate arrest.

“The Punjab being the headquarters of the LeJ is a fact no one can deny,” the minister said while talking to the mediapersons on his arrival at Lahore Airport from Dubai.

He stressed the Punjab government should arrest these 734 LeJ activists to make amends for its previous mistake of supporting the banned organisation. “The federal government had never inter-dined with the LeJ men. We have, rather, opposed all terrorists and banned organisations,” he said.

Responding to a question, he said the federal government was in favour of negotiations with Taliban. “But it is not possible that they continue to attack the people and the government holds talks with them,” he maintained.

Malik further stated that the government was determined to exterminate the terrorists. “We have broken the backbone of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and now they are no more in a position to carry out terrorist activities in Quetta and Karachi,” he affirmed.

On JUI-F-convened APC on terrorism, the interior minister alleged that some banned outfits also attended the moot. “It would have been better had the TTP also been invited to be part of the deliberations,” he remarked.

To a question about prospects of electoral alliance between the PPP and MQM, Malik said that the two parties may have seat adjustments in certain constituencies.
