ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked Afghanistan to arrest and hand over the leader of the Swat Taliban, Mullah Fazlullah who is currently based in Kunar province of Afghanistan, to Pakistan.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Malik said the Fazlullah-led Taliban were attacking Pakistani villages and security posts along the Pak-Afghan border in Bajaur, Dir and Chitral from inside Afghanistan, adding that the Taliban had killed almost 40,000 Pakistanis. He said the Afghan government should cooperate with Pakistan in sealing the border as it was necessary to curb terrorism.
The interior minister said terrorists had been defeated and they were on the run, adding, The war against terrorists will continue.
Malik said all those children who had been hired by the Taliban would be given jobs by the government provided they ended their links with the militants.
To a question, he said investigation into the Benazir Bhutto murder case had been completed and it would be shared with the public with the permission of the court.
To another question, Malik said a special kind of software would be used to filter irreligious materials on YouTube. He said passports would now be issued for a 10-year period.
Earlier, the interior minister inaugurated Pakistani Origin Cards for Overseas Pakistanis and their spouses. He also launched the Smart Card scheme to replace the existing computerized national identity cards. The smart card would have 38 features.
