Malaysia to import rice, beef and livestock from Pakistan

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (APP): Malaysia has shown keen interest to import rice and cows from Pakistan. This understanding was reached between the Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Malaysian Minister for Agriculture and Agro Based Industry, Dato’ Haji Noh Bin Omar in a meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Qureshi said that Pakistan has surplus crop of high quality basmati rice, which are known world over for their exceptional taste, un matched flavor and long length of grain.

He said that Pakistan can be dependable, consistent and uninterrupted resource of supply of rice to Malaysia Qureshi also offered a steady and consistent supply of frozen Beef and Mutton to Malaysia. He said that Pakistan being a meat eating Muslim country has a world class mechanism set in place for processing and packaging of Halal Beef and Mutton.

He said that Malaysia can benefit by importing Beef and Mutton from Pakistan to overcome the shortage.

The Foreign Minister also offered to Malaysia, Pakistani Mangoes, which are second to none in the world for their taste and exceptional flavor and Pakistan Oranges which are easy to peel, rich in juice and have great nutrition value.

The Foreign Minister said that Malaysia can also collaborate with Pakistan in Milk and Milk based products. As Pakistan is one of the largest producer of milk in the world, it can supply fresh milk and milk based products to Malaysia in large quantity.

Qureshi said that Pakistan will also welcome Malaysia’s expertise in processing, packaging and marketing of products to Malaysia and other parts of the world, for mutual benefit of both the countries.

The Foreign Minister also offered services of Pakistan work force and technical know how in Veterinary and livestock sector to assist Malaysia to raise its own livestock.

He added that Pakistan can also provide Malaysia “Sahiwal Cow” and “Nili Ravi” Buffalo, which are famous the world over, for its milk producing ability.

Qureshi invited the Malaysian Agriculture Minister to visit Pakistan in December, for forging lasting ties in the field of food, agriculture and livestock.

He also suggested formation of working group in each identified areas of cooperation like Rice, Beef, Mutton, Mangoes, Oranges, Milk and Milk products comprising representatives from relevant public and private sectors of both the countries.

The Malaysian Minister agreed on the proposals of the Foreign Minister.

He said that Malaysia is keen to import Rice and animals from Pakistan, adding, Malaysia’s public and private sector will seriously interact with their Pakistani counterparts for import of Mangoes and Oranges, beside, looking into import of Milk and Milk based products.

The Malaysian Minister also accepted the invitation to visit Pakistan and hoped that during his visit, Pakistan and Malaysia will be in a position to sign agreement of cooperation in the Food, Agriculture and livestock sectors.
 

KARACHI: The International Halal Integrity Alliance (IHI), Malaysia will assist Pakistan in establishing a Halal Standards Board and Halal Accreditation Body in Pakistan besides coordinating with Pakistan to set up Halal products testing laboratories, provide referrals of key experts in setting up a Halal Science base in Pakistan and series of Halal training workshops all over Pakistan. This was announced by the IHI Alliance in Kuala Lumpur last week under a MoU signed between Halal Development Project (HDP) of Pakistan and International Halal Integrity Alliance Ltd (IHI) of Malaysia for forging bilateral ties in the Halal food sector. staff report
