Malaysia and China will have closer ties with recognition of China Universities. There are about 10,000 Chinese students in Malaysia, and 3,000 Malaysian students in China.

KUALA LUMPUR: An agreement is in sight for universities in China to be recognised by the Higher Education Ministry.
Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung said the ministry was in its final stages of having several universities and higher learning institutions in China accredited.
The list of universities is almost ready and there should not be any problems on our side. Basically, the work is done. Now its just a matter of signing the agreement, he told reporters after launching a youth seminar by the Malaysian Buddhist Association here on Sunday.
Once this is achieved, both countries will forge closer ties in terms of having better cooperation among our universities, he added saying that he hoped the agreements can be reached by the end of the year.
Currently, almost 3,000 Malaysian students are furthering their tertiary studies in China.
Meanwhile, China currently has the most number of tertiary students in Malaysia with almost 10,000 students, followed by Iran and India.According to Dr Hou, most of them have come to Malaysia to enroll in IT, computer studies, creative arts and design courses.
Dr Hou said the ministry aims to attract more students from China, bringing the total number of students to a targeted 15,000 by 2015.
Earlier, he represented MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and handed a RM30,000 donation by Dr Chua to the associations youth wing to conduct more social activities and training.
MCA presidential council member Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn, who was also present donated RM20,000 to the Kek Lok Si Temple for the construction of the Kek Lok Si Sheng Nen child care centre and old folks home in Island Glades, Penang.
Their contributions were received by association president and temple abbot Venerable Master Seck Jit Heng, who said the building, estimated to be RM100mil will be completed by 2013.
