Malaysia shows interest in BRAHMOS at DSA '10

KUALA LUMPUR (BNS): Malaysia's Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi applauded the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile during his visit to the BrahMos Aerospace pavilion at the Defence Services Asia 2010 here on Tuesday.

The Minister took a view of all four variants of the weapon system – land, sea, air and underwater, and was briefed about its unique capabilities.

He also congratulated the BrahMos team present at the exhibition for the recent successful launch of BRAHMOS in vertical configuration from a moving warship.

BRAHMOS has already proved its mettle in the land and sea versions and has been inducted in the Indian Army and Navy.

Work is under progress to develop the missile's air and submarine-launched variants.

Malaysia, which is hosting the 12th edition of the Defence Services Asia, has evinced interest in the world's only supersonic cruise missile. The country is planning to procure a range of weapon systems, aircraft and ships to strengthen its armed forces as stated by its Defence Minister earlier.

DSA 2010, showcasing cutting-edge technology for the army, navy, air force as well as for the security and homeland enforcement agencies, is Asia's largest defence and security exhibition and among the five of the most prestigious defence exhibitions in the world.

Good, but there is no need for India to sell this state-of-the art missile to any other country.

no one is close ally of pak.

India and Malaysia cooperate in defense sector.

Following is about Sukhoi SU-30MKM flanker

"While the Indians provided flight instructors, engineering officers, technical experts and administrative staff here, the Russians provided their test pilots and engineers to verify, certify and standardise the Flanker."

Exports are going to happen...however downgraded version will be exported with range fixed at 290 km. , not like our case where it can be flexible with demand...

Given the sensitivities involved with Singapore, and pls note SG India ties are very strong, I don't think India will sell.

Last Updated: Apr 20, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR (BNS): BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile has attracted many high-level delegations from several participating countries here at the Defence Services Asia 2010.

The BRAHMOS Weapon System, for its superior warfare capabilities, has drawn several dignitaries and defence personnel from Malaysia, Vietnam, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Oman, Brunei and other African & Middle East countries.

The Defence Minister of Malaysia Dr. Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi was briefed by Dr. A S Pillai, CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace on the various capabilities of the weapon system and its installation on Ship, Road Mobile platforms, submarine and aircraft.

Malaysian Navy Chief Admiral Abdul Aziz Zafar has also shown interest in the Installation details and configuration.

As Malaysia is planning to equip its Meko A100 Kedah class ships with latest weapon systems, BRAHMOS missile is attracting attention from the Malaysian armed forces.

The main aim of the joint production is selling it to friendly nations.

well then sell it to countires like vietnam , oman and thailand. oman is already considering insas rifles for its forces , vietnam is a good friend of india + its relations are not so gud with :china:.... it can be good counter against china ;)

There is a huge difference between having Brahmos and not having Brahmos. It will give one side definite killing capability. Other than very few navies no one have capabilities to overcome Brahmos. So many countries want Brahmos but after opening second line production line also they will have difficulties in meeting the requirements of IA/IN/IAF, than when they will export? Most probably Russia can help.

Good idea. I was thinking same. Brahmos in the hands of Vietnam, Thailand, Oman, South Africa and some others will definitely give them an edge. Taiwan and Japan will be great but I think neither India/Russia will sell them nor they will buy it.

I was thinking exactly that. Singapore and Malaysia have had tense moments before. But they are not exaclty 'warring neighbours'. many malaysians come from border towns to work in singapore on a daily basis. Travelling between malaysia and singapore is very easy, not like India-pak. simply put, they have too much stake in each other, and cant afford to go to full scale war.

Also India is helping Malaysia with their flankers and singapore hasnt had any problems with that. So i dont think they will object to brahmos either. but still, we should note singaporean concerns. wont want to damage relations.
