According to the Afghan officials, a national grand council (Loya Jirga) is expected to be organized late in November to discuss the fate of the bilateral security agreement between Afghanistan and United States.
Members of the organizing committee, appointed by president Hamid Karzai to organize the grand council (loya Jirga) met on Saturday for the first time to discuss preparations for the national meeting.
Sadiq Mudabir, a member of the organizing committee said that the national meeting – Loya Jirga will likely be held in teh third week of November.
Mr. Mudabir further added that the over 3,000 people including tribal elders are expected to gather on 19 to 21 November to discuss and vote on bilateral security agreement between Kabul and Washington.
He also added that the the Jirga could last as long as a week to finalize the security deal between the two nations.
This comes as president Hamid Karzai a week ago said that the Afghanistan and United States reached to an agreement on a number of terms of the bilateral security agreement.
However, president Hamid Karzai said that the issue of immunity for the US troops which remains in the country beyond 2014 was not resolved.
Karzai said that the issue of immunity for the US troops will be referred to a national meeting – Loya Jirga, and the agreement will then be passed to Afghan parliament for final approval.
