KP Govt decides to make LRH Emergency Ward full fledge autonomous department: CM
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to give autonomous and independent status to the Emergency Ward presently working under the control of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar and make it a full fledge department by taking it out of the administrative hold of the hospital.
The ward will be renamed as Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department equipped with all the necessary facilities having its separate fund. A high level meeting in this regard was held here with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak in the chair.
Its director will be hired from open market through competitive process purely on the basis of merit; while the department will be fully autonomous in its financial, administrative and operational matters and will no more be dependent on LRH management for anything.
This decision has been taken with the aim to enhance the working capacity and improve the standard of the department so that it could be in a position to deal with any trauma and emergency admirably and no critical injured or serious patient coming here could expire just because of the non-availability of quick and quality treatment facilities.
Dr. Sheraz gave a detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting about the proposed A&E Department and put forth suggestions to bring it at par with international level. For this purpose Chief Minister approved the required fund to the tune of Rs 40.72 million and directed the quarters concerned to immediately initiate practical work on the same.
He also directed the authorities to ensure transparency in all the administrative matters and treatment procedures of the hospital and strictly check all the matters related to the patients right from their admission to discharge so that any types of forgery in the whole process could be avoided.
The Chief Minister said, "I have personally observed that in some hospitals patients are asked to buy medicines from market on their expenses and the same medicines are shown in hospital record meaning that the medicines have been provided by the hospital free of cost which is deception not only to the public but to the governmentt as well".
He warned that official involved in such deceitful practices would not be spared anyway and dealt with iron hands. He took strong exception of non-utilization of some expensive machinery purchased for the hospital and directed the CEO to put all the purchase machinery of the hospital to use so that the public could benefit them.
The Chief Minister also accorded approval to the establish of three new and separate departments, Works Department, Machinery Department and Sanitary Department in LRH to deal with construction and repair works, purchase and repairs of medical equipment and sanitation in the hospital respectively.
The proposed Work Department will deal with the overall construction and repair work in the hospital so that the hospital could be free to start construction and repair work where and when needed in the hospital without involving the C&W department.
Similarly, the proposed Machinery Department will look after the matters related to the purchase, maintenance and repair of medical equipments in the hospital, while the Sanitary Department will be responsible for the overall sanitary and cleanliness of the hospital.
