KARACHI: Pakistan’s first Industrial Park, one of its kind in the country, The Korangi Creek Industrial Park, spread over 250 acres area, has been launched on Monday in Karachi, which is aimed at provision of world class infrastructure to industrial enterprises

The project was undertaken by the National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIP), which is an autonomous entity by the Federal Ministry of Industries and Production on the concept of public- private partnership as a subsidiary of Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation PIDC.

Zubair Habib, Chief Executive NIP, unveiling the salient features of the mega project in his office informed, the core mission of the company is to support focused industrial growth in the country by developing world-class industrial parks across the country. The industrial park concept has played a key role in rapid developments in countries like China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

He said the KCIP project, strategically located on 250 acres at Korangi Creek, has been designed by Jurong Consultants of Singapore, which has expertise in designing highly successful industrial parks, especially in ASIAN countries.

The project is the first of its kind in the country and is envisioned to create a self contained industrial community, entailing a comprehensive master plan geared around the idea of strategically clustering specific industries, perimeter wall with controlled entry and exit, well designed road network, 48 megawatt captive power plant and provision of essential utilities including water, natural gas and telecommunication. Mr. Habib disclosed that clusters for the park are light engineering, food processing, consumer and pharmaceutical products, printing and packaging, value added textiles leather, information technology and gems and jewelry.

Amenities including effluent treatment, internal transportation, green areas, community space, vocational training and commercial centers for support services to the industry are also included in the project design to provide a complete infrastructure solution to industrialists.

To ensure transparency and discourage speculative interest, the company has designed a comprehensive sales policy with the objective of primarily attracting genuine industrial entrepreneurs.

The features of this project coupled with provision of one -stop -service aim to create a hassle free environment for both the local and foreign industrial entrepreneurs. Replying to a question, he said it is envisioned that this milestone project will create significant job opportunities ranging from 25,000 to 30,000 for skilled and semi- skilled workers thus contributing to the GDP growth of the country.

Regarding size and allocation period of industrial plots, he said plot size of total 230 plots varies from half acre to one acre that would be allocated to successful applicants after 3 months of thorough scrutiny.

Per square yard cost of each plot, which is Rs 5062, was approved during the last meeting of ECC of the previous regime in the year 2007. Development cost of the entire project would be in the range of Rs 3.3 billion with investment potential worth Rs 20 billion once it becomes fully operational. staff report

Country’s first industrial park launched in Karachi

This country is 50+ years old and you are saying this is the first Industrial Park!!!!

Take it as an advise from an Indian:

Makesure that you would spend extra money on Security apparatus for that project; else the terrorist bastards can kill such constructive projects in a matter of time thereby driving the investors away. India is learning it the hard way.

Good Luck.

No , there are many Industrial parks in Pakistan also many of them being planned.

Lahore , Gujranwala , Sialkot , are those cities and also there is one massive Project planned in Gawadar.

This one is the only one of its Kind so lets see what makes it special:pakistan:

Thanks for pointing this out. Actually, it is not the first industrial park at all. Karachi has had S.I.T.E for a long time, the Frontier has had Gadoon Amazai for decades, Lahore has had Kot Lakhpat industrial area since the '70s and has recently invested in the Sundar industrial estate (SMEDA - Sundar Industrial Estate). There is also the upcoming $50B industrial park being established in Punjab with Chinese assistance... There are two software parks in Lahore, one in Karachi and one in Islamabad... all told, there are dozens of industrial parks in Pakistan. This is simply careless journalism.

Great news though, despite the error in the headline.

KARACHI: The National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIP) on Monday launched its maiden project of an industrial park stretched over an area of 250 acres, which is expected to create over 30,000 direct jobs and add Rs40 billion to GDP.

The Korangi Creek Industrial Park (KCIP) the first project launched by NIP is the subsidiary of Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) established under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984.

“The launch of KCIP is a milestone in the industrial history of Pakistan as it is the first industrial zone that conforms to all required standards,” said the NIP chief executive Zubair Habib while speaking to media persons.

He said: “Our first priority is to stop speculation in KCIP and for this we have taken different measures in industrial land allotment. We first select genuine applicants by asking proper feasibility reports for their projects. Later, the applicants who pass this criterion will be able to go for the balloting process.”

The respective companies will be required to set up industry within two years and in case of failure, the land would be confiscated with the penalty. The balloting process will be completed in next three months, Zubair said. There will be 230 industrial plots in KCIP with only two sizes: half acre and one acre for the zone is restricted to small and medium size entrepreneurs.

The project has been designed by Jurong Consultants of Singapore who have expertise in designing highly successful industrial parks especially in ASEAN countries. Such projects of NIP are being developed in Pakistan to emulate the success stories of industrial parks in China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia to name a few.

Yaa.. President is the most photogenic person in Pakistan. My 2 cents! Some people are born to receive humiliation and I believe Zardari is one of them.

Great News Mashallah. I would love to see one such huge Industrial park built in every province. Baluchistan and Gilgit Baltistan are in more need of such projects than rest of the country. I also wish some 40% of Chinese investment would also go to areas that are economically deprived. Investment in developed ares is good but as Iqbal said quoting Ahadth, when your cities grow considerable size, make new cities instead of making them grow larger and larger.
