Keltron wins DRDO award - The New Indian Express
The Aroor unit of Keltron has won the Defence Technology Absorption Award 2012 of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The award consists of a citation and a purse of Rs 5 lakh and is in recognition of the fact that Keltron has absorbed the technology for assembling and testing towed array sonar systems from the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory.
The systems have been successfully demonstrated to the Indian Navy, Keltron officials said. Keltron managing director C Prasannakumar and chief general manager Keltron Controls, Aroor unit, received the award from Defence Minister A K Antony in New Delhi.
Keltron has established a dedicated facility at Aroor for manufacturing the towed array sonar systems required for the Navys underwater surveillance activities.
Keltron has developed a number of equipment for the defence sector including the towed arrays, underwater communication systems, advanced indigenous distress sonar system, data distribution system and platform noise amplifiers for use in surface craft and submarines.
