According to BBC website, President Karzai has gone to Iran, he has met with iranian officials and Ayatullah Khamanaie as well. He was invited by Iranian president to take part in celebrating Novrooz. President of Tajikistan is also in Tehran to celebrate the occasion. Novrooz is the first day of Spring and is celebrated in Iran, Tajikistan, Samarqand/Bukhara , Afghanistan and other countries.

Ahmad, I was reading that Obama is on surprise visit of Afghanistan. When he is in afghanistan how come Karzai went to Iran.. Sounds strange to me..
His visit took place to Iran before Obama's visit to Kabul. He was in Iran on Sat morning. I should have posted this thread on Sat lol.
it was on BBC farsi. I am sure press tv might also have reported it.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai left for Tehran on Saturday for a visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahamadinejad, according to a statement released by his office.
"During his one-day visit, the Afghan President would attend Nawruz or New Year celebration in addition to meeting Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, President Ahamadinejad and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki," the statement said.
President Ahmadinejat also visited Afghanistan early this month.
At the celebration, President of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq and delegates from 20 countries where Nawruz is celebrated are going to attend the Nawruz festival.
To enhance cooperation among the Persian speaking nations, Iran is holding the largest Nawruz festival and going to celebrate it with the participation of some leaders from the region on Sunday.
