KARACHI: Multiple grenade attacks outside Pakistan Air Force Base located on Shar-e-Faisal left at least one man injured here on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
Sources quoted eyewitnesses as saying some unknown attackers hurled at least five grenades at the Faisal Flyover gate of the PAF base and fled away in a car --a word of mouth, which is yet to be confirmed by the security agencies.
"It would be quite premature to comment on it as investigation into the attack was underway", said a police officer on the ground.
He said, "We are trying to gather eyewitness accounts to nail down: What sort of vehicle(s) were the attackers driving? How did they look like? What were they wearing? What language did they speak?, and What were their targets?"
On the other hand DIG of Police East, Aleem Jaari says initially it was reported that a cracker attack near a Post Office has injured two persons.
Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies who arrived at the scene to evaluate the damage are standing alert to ward off any secondary attacks.
Rangers, police, and PAF personnel have cordoned off the area beefing up the security at the entrances and exits of the base.
Bomb defusers have also jumped into action at the attack site as the possibility of more explosive devices planted around cannot be ruled out.
A search operation has been also been launched in the area, sources told Geo News.
The injured was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for first aid.
A spokesperson of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) said security agencies were in full control of the situation and are carrying out thorough investigation of the incident through all available means including CCTV footage, he added.
He added that the security on all PAF Air Bases is already on high alert.
