KARACHI: The Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday arrested four suspected members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Sher Khan Group. The suspects were allegedly involved in more than 30 target killings including those of cops and political activists. Thirty kilograms of explosive materials, four hand grenades, three Kalashnikovs, three 9MM pistols and a number of live bullets were also recovered from their possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Aslam Khan of the AEC, in a press briefing, said a spy informed the police that some TTP terrorists were present in the Manghopir area and were planning on carrying out a devastating attack on different political offices.

The SSP, along with his team, raided the Sultanabad area and were going up the hills when the militants opened fire at them. The police shot back and an encounter broke out, which culminated with four suspected terrorists being captured.

During the initial interrogation, the detained men disclosed their names as Abdul Wahid, Kareem Khan, Shauib Alam and Adil Nawab. They admitted that they were active members of the TTP’s Sher Khan Group.

The suspects confessed that they operated out of the Peerabad, Sohrab Goth and Manghopir areas.

The notorious leader of the group, Sher Khan, was wanted by the police in extortion and terrorism cases. He was present at the Manghopir hideout when the AEC team raided the area on Monday, but he managed to escape.

One of the arrested men, Adil Nawab, told the cops that he had escaped from the Bannu Jail last year when the prison was attacked by the Taliban. He also said that he was arrested in 2005 and sentenced to life in 2008.

He disclosed that on November 25, 2012 he and his accomplices, who had planned on attacking the Ashura procession, were fleeing from the police. The law enforcers killed one of the militants and arrested some of the others, he added. The group’s leader Sher Khan also escaped on this occasion. Nawab confessed to his involvement in more than 30 murder cases and said the group was involved in extortion.

Meanwhile, the police found that Abdul Wahid was sent to Waziristan, where he learned to make bombs and operate lethal weapons. He then moved back to Karachi, where he helped the TTP with its terror activities.

The police said that the accomplices of Wahid planted a motorcycle bomb outside the Mustafa Imambargah in Abbas Town and two other explosive devices in the Peerabad area during Muharram. Wahid said that he was arrested in 2008 by the CID under section 4/5 Explosive Act and 13-D, but a court released him in 2010.

CID has really been extremely effective against terrorists of the TTP. I really have to give them credit.

In another incident 8400 detonators found in a car in Rawalpindi. 8400, yes.

CID really should be respected. They have constantly arrested men linked to the TTP. Its surprising that the role in KP of the police in apprehending terrorists is almost nil.

Hang the buggers by their tail....

After due interrogation ofcourse.......

If the CID has evidence against these men, then there should be no delay in justice.
The minimum I can hope for is death by hanging so that others can learn from this.

Well Done - CID !!

Just shoot them by encounter squad. The best way to get rid of criminals!

We Congratulate the Pakistani authorities on capturing these terrorists. The Pakistani authorities might have saved many more lives in the process by arresting these terrorists. We proudly say that our nations refuse to bow down to terrorism. We will continue to target those who are working against our efforts to restore peace in the region. It’s our common stance against terrorism that brought us together in the first place. We certainly hope to stay unified against our common enemies. We reiterate what Richard Hoagland, the Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, said recently: “In this dangerous world where terrorists can strike at any moment, we must all work together – Pakistanis and Americans alike – because we have a strong mutual interest in defeating terrorism.”

Mr Khan since you are a Khan and more likely to have a background from Pakhtunkhwa why don't you ask the Pakistani government why it has been unsuccessful in dealing with terrorists in the same vein in parts of Pakhtunkhwa or how still bombs continue to go off?

Why don't you tell them to just quit if they can't fight a simple war and are more eager to stop Haqqanis, Hekmatyars and Nazirs rather than the real enemy for Pakistan which is Hakimullah.

Also a fort is attacked in Afghanistan a few soldiers wounded and Panetta warns Pakistan of consequences. 80+ Afghans were killed in a major attack. I don't remember this kind of reaction. So basically Pakistani or Afghan lives are worth less than those of your precious troops? Also this isn't the first time. The last time CID captured terrorists January 3 this year.

Wow. So this is the new US propaganda wing I read about targeting social media and forums? Hmm, congrats to the US team. Instead of pouring money here, if you could help people in the poor areas or if only you could stop the gazillion wars you started, wouldn't these terrorist be stopped before they even born? Most of these terrorists including the ones caught today are directly either created by you or created in your "war on terror"
